The highly anticipated rematch between bitter rivals Chris Eubank and Nigel Benn took place in 1993. It was hosted by Manchester United’s Old Trafford, and the 42,000 who crammed into the stadium to witness the fight were dwarfed by the estimated 16.5million who watched on ITV.

After 12 fiercely contested rounds the scores were 115-113, 113-115, and 114-114. It was a draw.

For the life of me, I cannot understand why this man is never listed in the Top-heavyweight of all time lists. He lost 1 fight, a majority decision, out of 45. And that was to perennial Top-heavyweight list member, Evander Holyfield - whom he beat twice!!! He also beat Pinklon Thomas, Herbie Hide, Andrew Golota (2), Pierre Coetzer, and Michael Dokes, among others. Great heavyweight, in my opinion.

“Boxing is a poor man’s sport. It’s a sport that demands your outright respect. Most people look at boxing or any contact sport and say, “Wow, I couldn’t do that,” because they don’t possess the thing inside of us that makes us go through pain. It takes something to activate that. That’s what separates fighters from other people.”

“My best weight was 218, but I was 237 for that fight. I looked like I was going to give birth to set of dishes. But my big mistake was what I said to Joe before the fight. Some newspaper guy asked me to call Joe up and when I got him, I told him, ‘Hey, bum, get in shape. I'm gonna eat your eyes out for grapes.’ I think that made him get in shape for me.”

Roy Jones Jr. was the epitome of a complete fighter, combining immense power in both hands with textbook combinations that allowed him to dominate and knock out opponents with relative ease. His blend of speed, power, and skill made him a force to be reckoned with throughout his career.

On November 18, 1994, one of the most eagerly anticipated clashes in the super middleweight division took place in Las Vegas, Nevada, when Jones faced the undefeated and highly regarded James "Lights Out" Toney for the IBF Super Middleweight title. Jones put on a masterclass performance, displaying dazzling speed, superior ringcraft, and impeccable skills, winning convincingly on points. This victory established him as one of the greatest fighters of his era.

After capturing the IBF Super Middleweight title from Toney, Jones continued his dominance by successfully defending his title against notable challengers, including Antonio Byrd, Vinnie Pazienza, Tony Thornton, Merqui Sosa, Eric Lucas, and Bryant Brannon. Each fight reinforced his reputation as one of the sport's top champions.

In November 1996, at the Ice Palace in Tampa, Florida, Jones stepped up once again, this time challenging the 40-year-old three-division world champion Mike McCallum for the WBC Light Heavyweight title. Jones showcased his awesome punching power and technical finesse, outpointing McCallum to claim the championship in his third weight division.

However, in 1997, at Atlantic City, New Jersey, Jones' unbeaten streak was momentarily halted when he was disqualified during his bout with Montell Griffin. Jones had hit Griffin while he was down in the ninth round, resulting in the disqualification. Undeterred, Jones avenged the loss in emphatic fashion just five months later, knocking out Griffin in the first round to reclaim his title in spectacular style.

Jones went on to further solidify his legacy by defending his title and stopping Virgil Hill in the fourth round. He then unified the light heavyweight division by defeating Lou Del Valle and eventually became the undisputed light heavyweight champion by overcoming Reggie Johnson. In doing so, Jones followed in the footsteps of boxing great Michael Spinks, becoming the undisputed light heavyweight champion and cementing his place in history as one of the sport’s all-time greats.

What can you say about his performance as SuperMiddle weight and Light Heavyweight fighter?
