Introduction - Hi I am PYRRHUS. I have been a DJ now for over 20 years. I first started gettin

g into music at an early age. In my teens, I was massively into Trance and collected CDs and tape cassettes for Euphoria and cream at the time. One in particular the red cover for the Euphoria collection mixed by Red Jerry was a personal favourite! that CD still sticks with me all those years on. I don't have a style as such when it comes to producing I feel I take a lot of different influences that inspire me to always make different sounds. Id say it's heavily synth-based and my Breakdowns do tend to lend themselves from the trance era with nice beautiful harmonies and a lot of musical counterparts in there. I am a huge fan of all electronic dance music. As a regular DJ at Sankey's in Manchester for many years, I played a lot of techno and electronic music that inspired me to become the producer I am today

Two sides of Hacienda.

My latest release is out now on the brilliant Capital Heaven, available in its entirety as a Beatport Exclusive.

For this post I wanted to share a proper taste of two versions from the release:

Hacienda (Original I’ll Breaks You Mix)
The full expression of the track — melodic Rave breaks driven by hypnotic acid lines, evolving arpeggios, euphoric textures and those warm, rolling Reese basslines at the heart of the Pyrrhus sound.

Hacienda (DJ Tool Mix)
A different proposition entirely. Stripped and reworked specifically with DJs and live sets in mind — something I’ve been having a lot of fun using in my own recent mixes and one that’s already been getting a great response.

The project itself was written with Manchester at its heart.

Inspired by the energy of the city’s late ’80s and ’90s rave culture, the acid-house movement and the legacy of a period that helped reshape electronic music, Hacienda is about taking inspiration from that history without trying to recreate it.

Honouring the past. Pushing the sound forward.

Sometimes you have to stop for a moment and take in the journey.

Back in March, I started watching my position within the BeatStats Electronica artist rankings. At the time, reaching the upper end of that chart felt a very long way away.

Month by month, release by release, that position has continued to climb.

Today, Pyrrhus sits at #14 in the rolling 12-month Electronica Artist chart.

What makes that difficult to put into words isn’t simply the number.

It’s looking around me on that chart and seeing artists such as Bonobo, Overmono, Bicep, Four Tet, The Chemical Brothers, Underworld and others whose music I’ve listened to, admired and inherently drawn inspiration from for many years.

To now see the name Pyrrhus occupying that same space is something I don’t take lightly.

There hasn’t been one defining record behind it. It’s been the accumulation of everything — the releases, remixes, collaborations, labels that have trusted my music, radio support and, most importantly, everyone who continues to listen, buy, play and share what I make.

This year has already given me moments I could never have predicted, and the recent run of Beatport No.1s has taken things somewhere else again.

But seeing the progression from where I was in March to #14 today perhaps puts the magnitude of the journey into perspective more than anything else.

Still creating. Still learning. Still moving forward.

And incredibly grateful to everyone who’s moving with me.

PYRRHUS — HACIENDA | OUT NOW

My brand-new three-track release, Hacienda, dropped yesterday on the amazing Capital Heaven.

This one has a story behind it.

Written with my home city of Manchester firmly in mind, Hacienda is my own tribute to a city, a movement and a period of musical history that changed electronic music forever.

Inspired by the legacy of The Haçienda, Manchester’s late ’80s and ’90s rave culture and the acid-house movement, I wanted to capture some of the raw energy, freedom and sense of community from that era — but reinterpret it through the melodic progressive breaks sound I make today.

The creative process brought together resonant 303-style acid lines, hypnotic arpeggios, swelling melodies, vocal textures and the warm rolling Reese basslines that have become such an important part of my productions.

The EP features three tracks, each created with a different purpose and use case — including a dedicated DJ Tool, which has been getting a great reaction whenever I’ve worked it into my recent live mixes.

For me, this release was never about trying to recreate the past. It was about taking inspiration from it.

Honouring where the music came from while pushing it somewhere new.

A tribute to a city, a movement, and a moment that reshaped everything.

This is a special release for me.

Manchester is my home, and Hacienda was written as my own reflection on a period of this city’s history that changed electronic music forever.

Inspired by the legacy of The Haçienda, the explosion of acid house and the energy, freedom and community that surrounded UK rave culture in the late ’80s and ’90s, I wanted to take some of that spirit and reinterpret it through the music I make today.

Not to recreate the past.

To honour it — and push it forward.

Resonant 303 acid lines, hypnotic arpeggios, euphoric leads and those warm, rolling Reese basslines that have become such an important part of the Pyrrhus sound — all brought together through a modern melodic progressive breaks lens.

There’s something deeply personal about releasing a record inspired by the musical history of the city I call home, and for it to arrive during a week that has also seen my music reach #1 on the Beatport Electronica Hype chart makes this one feel even more special.

Huge love and thanks to Capital Heaven and for believing in Hacienda and giving this record its home.

This one is particularly close to my heart.

Written with my home city of Manchester at its core, Haçienda draws inspiration from the sounds and energy that shaped the city throughout the late ’80s and ’90s — rave culture, electronic music and a period whose influence can still be heard throughout so much of what I make today.
