Rasmus Hojlund at Atalanta was in a system that suited him and he did well and when United bought him, he had a good 1st season at United. Then last season he struggled, was NEVER used to his natural and tactical strengths and it has largely affected his output.
So what's the issue?๐คท๐คท๐คท
โ ๏ธTen Hag wanted a striker like Harry Kane, a striker who can drop deep and create space for Marcus Rashford after his most productive season, just like Wout Weghorst and Anthnony Martial did previously.
But the issue was that Hojlund was mis-profiled; he's not that kind of player. The result? Both Rashford and Hรธjlund suffered...Rashford out wide, Hojlund central but too deep.
๐The same thing happened when Amorim joined. He wanted a striker who can receive long passes turned away from the goal, protect the ball & pass to oncoming teammates, or a striker who can drop deep to facilitate play in small spaces & create for the and WBs.
Hojlund suffered again!๐ซ๐ซ๐ซ๐ซ๐ซ
Clearly, Hojlund is not a facilitator nor a deep carrying striker, he lacks basic skills to provide hold-up play; he leans into defenders too much, in turn he neglects the ball in favor of contact.
Hojlund has no technical ability to dominate small spaces or win 1v1s from a static position.
What he is ACTUALLY great at is running from channel into box, usually from the LHS, into space and behind the lines. That's where Hojlund thrives!
TACTICAL POV
๐ดIn his first season at United, He was receiving 11 progressive passes per 90 mins - and by his 2nd season at United, that dropped to 4.53 passes.......do you see the drop-off?๐ค๐ค๐ค
Also Hojlundโs touches in the final 3rd collapsed from 21.3 per 90 mins in his 1st season to 10.6 in his 2nd United season......almost 50% drop-off again.
His take-ons also went down from 3.68 per game to 1.48.
The first issue facing Hojlund at United is:
โโโUnited's completely dysfunctional foward line. Garnacho and Rashford who were Hojlundโs attacking partners were not natural caterers, instead they wanted to have the glory to themselves as is evident of Garnacho getting more shots off as opposed to passes made in the penalty box.
END NOTES ๐
๐ด๐ดUnited have a young attacker who excels at receiving in the channel, with space in front of him, and running into the box to shoot, and United have been unable to get him to do that, instead, they keep trying to get him to do other things which heโs not good at.
โณWith the way Amorim wants to play, the best option would be to sell Hojlund to a team that caters for his needs rather than keep him and make him worse. If United do intend to keep him, then they must adjust how he is being used to maximize output.โ
..NOW TO YOU WHO ALWAYS TAUNT HOJLUND, NOT KNOWING THAT THIS HAS ALWAYS BEEN MANCHESTER UNITED'S RECRUITMENT FAULT, CAN YOU FINALLY TENDER YOUR APOLOGIES?๐คท
