If you’re considering booking a getaway, here are some tips to help your travel budget stretch further.

𝗔𝘃𝗼𝗶𝗱 𝗳𝗮𝗺𝗼𝘂𝘀 𝗱𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀
Holiday hotspots can be crowded and expensive, so visit a less well-known location with similar attractions.

For a beach break, swap Cancun, Mexico, for Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic. For alpine adventures, replace Switzerland with Slovenia.

𝗦𝗵𝗼𝗽 𝗮𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱
Remember that multiple travel agents may sell the same deal if booking a package holiday.

Once you’ve got a quote, see if you can get the same deal for less from a competitor.

𝗕𝗮𝗴𝗴𝗮𝗴𝗲 𝗿𝘂𝗹𝗲𝘀
A flight can look like a bargain until you go to book - and the price doubles once you include luggage.

It can be better value to choose a more expensive flight that includes hold luggage.

Are you thinking of upsizing in 2025?

Knowing what type of upsizer you are is the first step to finding the perfect new home.

𝗦𝗽𝗮𝗰𝗲 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝘀𝗲𝗿
The need for space is the number one reason for upsizing.

Maybe you have growing children, want a home office or need to accommodate an elderly relative.

𝗢𝘂𝘁𝗱𝗼𝗼𝗿𝘀𝘆 𝘁𝘆𝗽𝗲
Moving to get more outside space is also a popular reason for upsizing.

You may want a bigger garden or even your own smallholding.

𝗟𝘂𝘅𝘂𝗿𝘆 𝗹𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿
You may plan to upsize to enjoy a swankier, more luxurious home.

Perhaps a double staircase, home cinema or pool are on your wish list.

𝗙𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗶𝗻𝘃𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗿
In the last few decades, money invested in property has usually grown much faster than money put in savings accounts.

So, upsizing could prove to be a wise financial move.

Many landlords will find themselves managing joint tenancies.

Here are some tips on how to get the best out of them.

𝗘𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀
Remind your tenants that they have ‘joint and several liability’.

This means if one person fails to pay rent, or causes damage, the other tenants may have to cover the costs.

𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻
Don’t rely on one tenant to relay information to other tenants.

Always back up a conversation with an email sent to all tenants.

𝗔𝗿𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗿𝘀
If a tenant is behind with their rent, let all tenants know about the situation.

They may be able to help you get the tenant in question to pay their rent.

𝗚𝗲𝘁 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗳𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗵𝗲𝗹𝗽
Get a good letting agent to manage tenant relations for you.

If a dispute arises, they can take the lead.

Why not commit to some property resolutions instead?

Here are a few to put on your list:

Give your home a mini facelift. A lick of paint, a feature wall or some new pictures will help you start 2025 with a positive vibe.

Have you always thought of doing a loft extension or kitchen renovation? Winter is often a quiet time for builders so now’s a good time to get a few quotes.

Downsizers are a key part of the housing sector, but their motivations for moving are changing.

A recent report* found two groups of downsizers have grown significantly in number in the past seven years.

These are:

𝟭) 𝗗𝗼𝘄𝗻𝘀𝗶𝘇𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗶𝗻 𝘀𝗶𝘇𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘃𝗮𝗹𝘂𝗲
This group want a much smaller home (at least two fewer bedrooms) and a property with a lower price tag.

In the face of cost-of-living pressures, downsizers in this group jumped from 16% in 2017 to 25% in 2024.

𝟮) 𝗗𝗼𝘄𝗻𝘀𝗶𝘇𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗶𝗻 𝘃𝗮𝗹𝘂𝗲 𝗼𝗻𝗹𝘆
An increasing number of downsizers are moving primarily to trade down in value – size isn’t the issue.

Perhaps because of rising mortgage costs, 40% of downsizers now fall into this group. It was 27% in 2017.

𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗦𝗲𝗰𝗿𝗲𝘁𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗦𝘂𝗰𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗳𝘂𝗹 𝗥𝗲𝗴𝗶𝗳𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴

If you’ve received some Christmas gifts you don’t want or like, then regifting them can be the perfect solution.

Here’s how to do it successfully.

𝗗𝗼𝗻’𝘁 𝗳𝗲𝗲𝗹 𝗴𝘂𝗶𝗹𝘁𝘆
Regifting is more popular than you might think – 89% of people have done it*.

People regift for convenience, environmental reasons, and to save money.

𝗧𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗸 𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗳𝘂𝗹𝗹𝘆
Don’t dump your unwanted gift on just anyone. Think about who would like it or find it useful.

If you’re uncertain about regifting an item, donate it to a charity shop or tombola stall instead.

𝗣𝗹𝗮𝗻 𝗮𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗱
Store each unwanted item away carefully.

Avoid regifting to the original giver (or their family or friends) by attaching a label saying who gave it to you and when.
