We have been shocked and saddened that a primary school has received abusive, racist messages because they planned to perform one of our older Christmas musicals, written in 2016, which contains a single song and scene that is sympathetic to child refugees caught up in the Syrian conflict at that time. Yes, this musical is now 9 years old, but if ever there was a message that is still true to the real spirit of Christmas, it is that cold, hungry, frightened children, wherever they are, should be given help and support. For this message to be deliberately misinterpreted by individuals who have an axe to grind about a migrant situation, in the UK, nine years later, and to then abuse the staff at a primary school with racist comments, is beyond our comprehension. All this does is reinforce our opinion that those of you who work in schools, who deal with this sort of thing day in, day out, on top of an unwavering workload, are absolute superheroes. Thank you. x
