Derby’s Bridge the Gap opens Family Support Fund
A Derby organisation supporting children’s emotional literacy and mental health has launched a new Family Support Fund to help more local families access early support.

Bridge the Gap Child Mental Health C.I.C., based at St Mary’s Gate in Derby, has £17,500 available to subsidise support for eligible families who may otherwise be unable to afford its paid-for services.

The money was raised by founders and directors Jennifer Wyman and Nikki Webster, together with the wider Bridge the Gap team and supporters, at a fundraising gala held at Derby’s Vaillant Live in March.

Derby couple launch city-based ceramic hub
A Derby couple who met while working together to create the world-famous poppies that filled the Tower of London in 2014, are opening a city-based ceramic hub.

Artists Abbie Sunter and James Pettinger, will launch Wedge – a ceramic workshop aimed at supporting keen ceramic practitioners whilst encouraging newcomers to give it a try.

Thirteen years after working for internationally renowned artist Paul Cummins, Abbie and James have continued to expand their individual practices with James working as a ceramics instructor at De Montfort University while Abbie built up her studio practice and completed her Master’s degree in Art at The University of Derby.

Foulds Guitars in Derby has been named one of the nation’s favourite businesses by the Small Business Saturday campaign, as it begins its annual drive to champion and support the UK’s small businesses.

Established in Derby in 1893, Foulds Guitars in The Strand Arcade, is one of the country’s longest-standing independent music retailers in the UK. The business provides new and pre-owned guitars, amplifiers, keyboards and accessories, alongside instrument repairs, servicing, music tuition and events.

Following a nationwide search, Foulds Guitars has been selected as part of this year’s Nation’s Favourite Businesses line-up, in a new development from the campaign’s long-running SmallBiz100.
