✨ This is a BIG Striders Night! ✨If you have a Striders top please wear it with pride 😊 this evening.
It’s the Couch to 5K Graduation Run 🎓 AND the final day of the 5K Challenge as part of the Strider Games 🏆
All walkers and runners will be coming together to complete the Poolsbrook Parkrun 5K route, running alongside our Couch to 5K graduates to celebrate their amazing achievement 💚
This night is all about: 🎉 Supporting our graduates
🎉 Welcoming them into the Castle Striders Family
🎉 Showing that this is just the beginning of their regular running journey
We’d love as many Striders as possible to turn up, run or walk with the groups, bring the Striders spirit, and help make this an unforgettable graduation night 🙌

Energy charity supports households affected by Energy Price Cap increase

The new Energy Price Cap has been confirmed to go up by 13%, meaning an average increase on energy bills of £221 to around £1,862 per year. Charity Groundwork Five Counties supports affected households in the East Midlands through its free Green Doctor energy advice service.

This increase will come into effect from 1st July and is influenced by a range of factors, mostly notably the recent rise in cost of wholesale energy prices due to the conflict in the Middle East. This is the highest summer rise in four years.

Derby Book Festival appeal for children’s books.
Derby Book Festival is launching an appeal for donations of children’s books to be given to less fortunate children in the city who may not have books at home. They are asking local residents to have a clear out at home and collect up any previously loved, but now unwanted, children’s books, ideally for children under the age of eleven.

This is the sixth time Derby Book Festival has organised the appeal. To date they have collected 17,000 books from the residents of Derby.

The appeal is launched to coincide with this year’s Summer Festival, which will be held from 22 – 31 May, supported by the University of Derby and Marketing Derby, many of whose Bondholders support it each year.

The lost houses of Derbyshire: SAWLEY MANOR.
At Sawley, beside the old Nag’s Head Inn, on the corner of Wilne Road (previously called Cross Street) and Tamworth Road, lies a site devoid of structures bar a black shed, currently used by a local firm as a transport yard. On this very site, though, until a couple of years following the end of the Second World War, stood Sawley’s ancient manor house.

In the Middle Ages and, apparently going back to the ninth century, the estate at Sawley was an appendage of the See of Lichfield, and the prebends of the See – these days more often called canons – were the priests based at the Cathedral who assisted the Bishop and, in very early times, were charged with the task of evangelising those elements in the countryside who were still pagan, or had lapsed into paganism.
