CityLIVE Radio was launched in 2019 as a hobby station that surprisingly was a hit with listeners across the UK that saw our listener figures go from the hundreds to the thousands.
Our recent figures show that over 31,500 listeners tuned in the past month, which we believe is superb for an online radio station.
We have seen some great shows come and go over the past six years, and have attracted some great talent to our station such as Emma Scott, Chuck Shorter, Malissa Whitehouse and Steve Benz, who continue to bring high-quality shows to our listeners.
Over the past year, we had been offered a chance to broadcast on DAB in the Teesside region. But after a long think, we've decided not to go ahead with this, as the market is showing listeners to DAB and FM radio is on the decline, while online radio is on the rise. We don't think we could invest in a platform that is slowly losing listeners and many radio stations across the UK have closed due to financial difficulties because of lack of advertising and affordability. Therefore, we believe this is too risky for us not just financially, but it also means a change in our platform where we won't be able to freely play the music our listeners like to hear, due to OFCOM regulations and would no doubt we'd see a decline in our listeners. This was also the case for broadcasting on Freeview and Freely, which is why earlier this year, we decided to pull the plug on those platforms.
Also, competition is tough, especially in our region where there are several radio stations broadcasting from the Teesside region, and its been made clear that we are seen as a threat to some of these stations, with some even going out of their way to try and tarnish our reputation.
We are a fully licensed, online radio station that is operated by volunteers, we have no income unlike other stations, with the station manager self-financing the station and has done so since day one. Because of our years experience in broadcasting, we are successfully producing a radio station that listeners want to hear, which has been proven by our listener figures and feedback from people across the UK.
So we would like to continue giving what our listeners want, by providing a range of music programming and broadcast a wide-range of music from across the decades, including tracks that others dare not play. Its that reason, which makes us unique to the airwaves - this station is for our listeners. We listen to what you want and provide that service.
Thank you for listening, thank you for your continued support and our promise to keep on providing you with the station you want.
