The result of the Nunthorpe by-election held on Thursday, December 4 has been announced.

Reform UK candidate Joanne Rush was elected to Middlesbrough Council with 35.79% of the vote.

The full results were:

Sam Boardman (Green Party) - 79
Richard Lewis (Labour Party) - 52
Martin Lyon (Conservatives) - 328
Joanne Rush (Reform UK) - 563
Adrian Walker (Liberal Democrats) - 550

One ballot paper was rejected. The 1,573 votes cast represented a turnout of 35.75%.

The by-election was held following the resignation of Lib Dem Morgan McClintock.

It's nearly time for Boro's big festive event - the Christmas Lights Switch On 🎄✨

This Sunday 23 November, there will be market stalls, fairground rides and a jam-packed stage programme of free live entertainment!

Here's what's happening in Centre Square 👇

🕺12.10pm – 1.45pm: community performances from Urban Kaos, Tees Dance, Teesside Musical Theatre Youth Company, and Middlesbrough Youth Theatre

🎅 2pm – 3pm: break for Christmas Parade

🎵 3pm – 4.55pm: festive party with dance acts, pop hits, Apollo Big Sing and the stars of Middlesbrough Theatre’s panto

💡5pm: Lights switch on

🎤 5pm – 18.30pm: Paul Skerritt Band

🎅 Santa is coming to town...

Middlesbrough will be merrier and brighter next Sunday 23 November!

🎄The Christmas Lights Switch On live entertainment will take place between 12pm – 6pm on the main stage in Centre Square, the lights will be switched on at 5pm.

Santa will lead the Christmas parade, along with his reindeer and local schoolchildren and community groups around the town centre from 2pm.
