Star Wars: Episode VIII – The Last Jedi.

When entering our Universal Creations building these are one of the first things you’re greeted with. They always bring back great memories for us as we made hundreds of them and they worked so well in the film.

filming this scene as when watching the film so many people think it’s CGI.

We love a challenge 💪🏼 and making this sink as a soft version for a fight scene definitely got our heads scratching in terms of the best way to go about moulding this!

We were really happy with the result, what do you think? (The taps are real, with all the white ‘ceramic’ made from soft foam)

We always get asked to make various items as soft replicas for head or body hits, and sometimes the item can be on the larger side …..like this boulder we cast in a soft for Bridgerton Series 2. Alongside a few soft smaller rocks we made, this makes for a safer outdoor set when stunts are taking place 🪨

Our replica prop weapons are made and finished with a high level of detail enabling us to deliver prop weapons of the highest quality for film/tv use.

When we are making softs out of foam, it doesn’t mean that the texture, shine or finish are lost in the final product.

We make all of our soft props as realistic as possible, as it’s these details that matter when on screen 👀 🎥 🖌

See Universal Creations Director and Founder, Adriaan Engelbrecht, talk about leading the mould shop for ‘Thor: The Dark World’ where he was responsible for creating a lot of the props and weapons used in the film.

Adriaan created all of Thor’s hammers used on screen, including those used for all stunt and close-up shots, demonstrating our absolute insistence on authenticity and the superb quality of our finished works.

It was awesome to see our soft church pew ends and soft axe that we made for The Essex Serpent staring Claire Danes and Tom Hiddleston. The church pew was made out of old driftwood, and we also made several softs to match for the scene where he is punching it (pics taken before painting).

This was a tricky mix to get right as the pew had to be soft enough not to hurt when punched, but rigid and hard enough to not look squidgy like foam on camera!
