This is the moment when an autistic student at Edgarwood Academy in Middleton is attacked by two female students in the classroom using a table. The autistic student eventually defends himself by pushing the table back and lifting it towards the female students before collecting his belongings and leaving the classroom. The teacher did very little to protect the student from harm, and you can hear the students verbally abusing the boy.

Following the incident, the teacher assigned the autistic student a 30-minute detention for leaving the classroom. More troubling is that another student recorded the video and posted it on social media/TikTok.

The school has not adequately addressed the complaint made by the student's parent. Since opening in September 2021, the school has faced significant issues, including having two different headteachers.

The student has faced bullying from both students and staff who are unskilled and uninformed about educating and supporting students with SEN and special needs at Edgarwood Academy, opting to punish them instead. This includes issuing detentions to students with sensory issues for not wearing socks or for a pen running out, which is truly shocking.

Many other parents are encountering the same problems and facing similar issues, with some opting to remove their children from the school and seeking alternative placements due to safeguarding concerns.
