We got tired of that, so we built our own.

For a lot of regulated organisations, the answer to "should we use AI?" has been a flat no. Not because the technology wasn't good enough, but because the data couldn't leave the building.

That changed this week. Anthropic's most capable model, Claude Fable 5, reached general availability on Google Cloud Vertex AI on 9 June. It also went live across Anthropic's own API, AWS, and Microsoft, so this is not a Google exclusive. The point is simpler than that: a frontier-class AI model now runs inside the cloud you already govern.

For a standards body, a ministry, or a regulated education provider, that is the part that matters. On Vertex AI the model sits under the same IAM, billing, and data-residency controls you already trust, with regional endpoints so EU or specific-region data can stay where your policy says it must. The compliance barrier to adopting frontier AI has dropped, without sending sovereign or sensitive data to an outside vendor.
