Congratulations Palatine Bowling Club and the green of dreams!

Press release on behalf of Palatine Bowling Club in Lancaster 😁 - they welcome new members of all ages and abilities. Fixtures and results are posted weekly on the club noticeboard (LA1 4EX).

PALATINE’S GREEN OF DREAMS RISES AGAIN 💚

Since being re‑established a few years ago, Palatine Bowling Club has been the small, determined team whose biggest celebrations were the seasons when they managed not to finish bottom of the league. This season however, there has been a minor miracle - Palatine have finished in second place and secured promotion to Division Three - and nobody is more surprised by that remarkable turnaround than the team themselves. It’s a milestone built on transformation both on and off the green.

This year began with a major fundraising effort, where members and supporters raised money to match‑fund a Sport Lottery grant. That £11,500 funding allowed the club to make significant improvements: new benches, new junior bowls, essential green upgrades all built on the previous year’s installation of new green railings. The wider Palatine site has also been revitalised, with new tennis courts and other noticeable improvements making a more welcoming environment for
everyone.

Community support has been extraordinary. Home fixtures and results have been advertised on the club noticeboard each week and have drawn a real gathering of people coming to watch. Many local residents grew up around Palatine and have shared positive comments, pleased to see the space back in proper, active use. More than twenty sets of bowls have been donated by local bowlers who want to help new players get started. One friend has even built a bespoke bowling cupboard, enabling the club to lend bowls to novice bowlers next season.

“The Palatine squad is largely made up of the same players who were competing five years ago who were all new to bowling”, said number one player Barry Kendall, “but this season things really seemed to fall into place for us.” Palatine lost only one home game all year, a testament to how far the team has come.

Team captain Janine Bebbington said, “This promotion belongs to everyone — our players, our supporters, our volunteers, the City Council, and everyone who has helped bring Palatine back to life. What a year! We’ve even written to Stagecoach to see if they’ll lend us an open‑top double‑decker bus for a victory parade up Bowerham Hill to the Palatine Green of Dreams.”

For now, the team plans to enjoy the win. Next year obviously brings a new challenge — trying not to get relegated from Division Three!

…it’s happening! Work has officially started on Eden Project Morecambe! 🥳🎉

Today marks an exciting moment for us, as after years of planning, collaboration and imagination, our team and main contractor VINCI Building came together to take the first steps to bring Eden Project Morecambe to life!

The first part to open in Spring 2027 will be our free to enter Bring Me Sunshine Garden, a vibrant 1.5-acre community garden inspired by the nature, ecology and heritage of Morecambe Bay, and co-designed with young adults from the area.

The Eden Project Morecambe full site opens in late 2028.

New podcast!

For 60 years, Morecambe Lifeboat's RNLI volunteers have been ready to answer the call when people get into trouble. 🌊🚤

Since the lifeboat arrived in 1960, volunteers have launched at a moment’s notice to face the unpredictable waters of Morecambe Bay. The town also made history as the first place to house an RNLI hovercraft, alongside the inshore D-class lifeboat.

But lifesaving takes more than boats. ❤️

The RNLI relies on volunteers to crew and launch the lifeboats, support operations behind the scenes and run two shops that raise vital funds.

In this episode we hear from just two of them - Fiona Kerr and Paul Ainsworth - who share what inspired them to volunteer, what the training involves and how they fit lifesaving around busy lives.

🎧 Hear their stories and discover what it really takes to volunteer with Morecambe RNLI.

And look out for the new series of Saving Lives At Sea this week on BBC TV this week.
