We took Ava to Celandine festival at Claremont Farm and she had a lovely time. It was her first visit to a big show. Place with lots of other dogs, kids / people hustle and bustle she barked at another dog in the car park once and pulled to the gate and was good as gold after that and loved it.

We did the little agility course there which she has never done before and did great for a first time... mummy however managed to knock a jump down.

As there was a dog grooming van there 'The DirtyDog Barber' we nipped in and had her nails clipped and she wasn't fazed at all. https://www.facebook.com/share/1PCRtbj9FJ/

She played with lots of children one in particular she had a great time with doing zoomies on her extendable lead with the little girl (I'd have loved to video her but I wouldn't video a child knowingly without parents permission and didn’t know who the parent was) but they both had so much fun together.

Caught up with a few friends we hadn't seen in a while.

And finished the day with an doggy ice cream with mummy and daddy (we had hooman ice creams)

Been to visit my Nanny today ❤️ she gave me a little groom and we had a fight with the brush 😂 I also got lots of kisses and cuddles off the nurses

Our old girl gave us a fright last night. Not a great day and got back and opened the front door and poor Meg was falling all over the place and couldnt barely stand.

Long story short... trip to the ooh vets Sanderson Vet (which may i add we were very happy with - vet was very thorough, explained everything clearly and they saw us straight away and were very nice and didn't rip us off!). And we think it is arthritis flare. She is on a 7 day painkiller course and see how we go.

Meg is 14 in December 2026 (We expect her to last longer than that but if its her time before then nothing we can do about that) her back legs have been playing up for a bit but yumove senior has made a big difference for her. She has so many lumps and bumps all over her chest and abdomen so who knows. She is a lot better today may I add and we have mats and blankets everywhere now to stop her slipping.

Keep her comfortable and happy as long as we can ❤️

Heat Stroke Truths!

We are headed into a hot week, which means the usual posts containing dangerous myths about heat stroke are going to appear; so here is the truth;

💦 Cold water is FINE

It is fine for them to play in and it is absolutely fine to cool them down if you are worried they are too hot.

It does NOT need to be 'tepid' and it will NOT send them into shock.

If a dog is overheating, they need to be cooled down as fast as possible, especially if their body temperature is rising into the danger zone.

Cold water is the best way to do this. Any temperature lower than the dog will help but the colder the better for a fast reduction.

💦 Get them as wet as possible!

Always remember the phrase 'Wet then Vet' if you are worried they have heat stroke.

Soak them to the skin with the coldest water you can find and keep them in a breeze (roll down the car windows) while you travel to veterinary care.

You should NOT only wet their paws and bellies, soak the whole dog.

🧊 Ice cubes and iced treats are a great idea!

They have the same effect on dogs as they do on us! They are a lovely, cooling treat on a sunny day and giving frozen treats on a Kong or Lick-e-mat will help keep your pet entertained but quiet.

🐕 Thick double coats do NOT keep them cool

If you have a thick coated dog, their fur does not have a cooling quality. The undercoat traps their body heat and makes it harder for it to escape, doubly so when the outside temperatures rise and triply so if they start to exercise.

If you have a thick coated dog, you need to be extra careful in this warmer weather and put every measure in place to keep them safe, especially if they are elderly, flat faced or overweight.
