After a chat with vet clinic this morning, I am absolutely thrilled to say we have the all clear from our vets to continue Cally's walking undersaddle 🎉🎉

She is being quite strong inhand, (i was getting a sore shoulder from being dragged so she could try and eat every blade of grass she could see 🙈🤣 we also completed 25 minutes of inhand walking)

A check up in a couple of weeks to see if we can progress to some trotting 🤞🤞

Cally went back to the vets to figure out why she is still lame in the trot on 09.07.26. She has now had her coffin joint medicated with a steriod injection after comimg 80% sound in the trot, after trotups and another nerve block. She was also bilatterally lame in the hind end, and that lameness was also presenting in the diagonal right fore limb (left hind the injured limb) the rest of the lameness in the other limbs was a result of overcompensating. (This was also notice by Cally's physio and after some treatment there was some improvement)

When Cally went down to dick vets back in march to have an MRI scan done it showed serious damage to her annular ligament - which she had surgery to have that ligament cut. The MRI also showed that she had some artharitic changes to her coffin bone.

Cally was seen as a day case, so, came home the same day on the 9th special thank you to Samantha Murray at Highland Equine Transportation & Services for transporting Cally to and from the vet. Cally had a bandage on overnight, and is to rest for three days before we start rehab all over again...the vet also clipped Cally's legs for me.

Yesterday Cally had her bandage removed, she was looking a little sore in the morning so was given some pain relief and the seemed to help her.

Cally officially joined the hogged cob club. My goodness doesnt she look very smart. She really suits it. I hogged her mane, thinned and shortend her tail by hand and blended it using only sissors and blending sissors. She is so much happier for it ❤️

Cally had her vet check up today 3 months post annular ligament snip surgery.

Unfortunetly we didnt get the news we were hoping for today from our vet appointment.
Although Cally was good in the walk, in her trotting exam, it was very clear that she was still not right in the trot and was sore after a flexion test. The vet agreed that Cally still shouldnt be so lame in the trot 3 months after her surgery. So Cally is having some rest with pain relief.
My vet contacted one of the surgeons from Dick Vet who was part of Callys team that operated on her back in march and have given me a couple of options to have a think about on what steps are going to be taken next. But there will be more investigations done to try and get to the bottom of the issue.
The positive from today was there was no heat present and very little swelling remained from injury and surgery and was otherwise well in herself just not happy or comfortable at the trot.

Feeling a little deflated but setbacks do happen, we will know more when she goes back to the clinic for more investiagtions 🤞

23.5.26 was an absolute memorable day for Cally and I. ❤️

8 weeks after surgery I sat on Cally to see how she was feeling - testing the waters a little bit to see if she was comfortable with me on her and took some steps just at a walk, we rode for less than a minute. Cally looked quite happy - i was absolutely thrilled. I decided not to put her saddle on so i could really feel how she was moving underneath me. She felt very comfortable with pretty even movement behind untill we reached a slight incline - where she got tense through her back. I got off gave her the biggest cuddle and cried a little and we then completed our inhand walk as sheduled. Thank you Emma for the assist and the photos. 🥰

24.5.26 yeserday we completed our daily walk - we are now up to 20 minutes walking BUT we rode for 10 minutes of it in the arena - again no saddle. Cally seemed a little bit unsure at first but after a bit of reasurrance she walked round the arena and took in the views. With some gentle guidance to keep to straight lines as much as humanly possible we had some long and low stretching. Her nose was pretty much on the arena surface, nice steps behind no shuffling or odd steps and she appeared very relaxed. By the end of the ridden session she was very chilled, lots of pats and ofcourse some treats for her efforts we then finnished the walk work inhand...and what did i do? I cried like a little girl before Cally decided i made a good scratching post 🤣

Im absolutely over then moon, and something different for Cally to think about and she was so relaxed when returning to her grazing and not tanking off to the grass, which she started to do recently.

Im so proud of Cally and her progress.

Rehab is not easy at the best of times but we soldier on to give Cally the best chance of recovery.

I plan on doing 1 ridden walk session a week so long as Cally is comfortable to do so - she will let me know if shes not comfortable.

I will be having a chat with my vet on her progress and then plan to get Cally into a more structured physio programme and treatments. But for now i'll enjoy how happy Cally is ❤️

Cally's looking good, working on a bit of weight loss and getting rid of that hay belly that she developed on box rest. We have had alot of rain the past few days so shes had a rainsheet on, was so nice to see her have time without a rug on last night, catching the last rays of sunshine before it got dark. Rainsheet back on this morning though 🙈

Shes is just so beautiful ❤️
