It’s always nice to perform well on the golf course and to be in the prizes. However, to win the first competition you enter after joining a club must be extra special but that is exactly what happened at Southwell Golf Club today. With an excellent score of 38 points, one of our newest members Rocco Conway teamed up with Paul Crerand Jnr and their score of 38 points was enough to give them the top prize. Congratulations Rocco👍

If you are interested in joining a golf club, we are always happy to welcome new members and offer some great value membership options. For more details, please contact our PGA Professional Timothy James Newham on 01636 813706 for more information.

It is with great sadness to report that in the early hours of Tuesday morning, Brian Rice passed away following a brave battle with cancer. Brian, affectionately known as Bash, worked as a Greenkeeper of Southwell Golf Club for many years and was a hugely popular member of the club. He was a talented golfer and it was always a pleasure to play alongside him as he always played the game with a smile on his face. He particularly enjoyed reaching the 17th tee as by then, he would be looking forward to reaching the clubhouse where he knew he would be waiting for his good friend Bernard Forbes to serve him a beer which he would enjoy after the round with his many friends! Bash represented the club on numerous occasion and has his name on the honours boards for countless successes. He also won the Men’s Club Championship but he took even greater pleasure in winning the Men’s Singles Knockout Trophy in 2002 by defeating his close pal, David Britten on the 18th green, a victory which he loved to remind Dave about whenever possible! A true character and stalwart of Southwell Golf Club, Bash’s cheery presence will be missed by all who knew him and our heartfelt condolences go to his wife Julie and children David, Sarah and Richard.

A highly enjoyable day yesterday at Southwell Golf Club where over 70 Lady golfers took part in the club’s Autumn Leaves Open competition. Golfers from neighbouring counties and as far away as Lancashire took part in the event which was won by Margaret White, Kate Greaves, Helen Kirschner and Elaine Faithorn from Sleaford and South Kyme Golf Clubs. We also managed to raise over £300 for the John Eastwood Hospice with Lady Vice Captain Lisa Todd explaining how valuable such donation are and how the monies allow it to provide such an excellent service.

Many thanks to Club Captain Steve Collington for a really enjoyable Captain’s Day today at Southwell Golf Club. The Greens staff presented the course in an excellent condition and the competitors enjoyed an excellent post-round meal thanks to Bernard Forbes. Charlie Hall defeated Jayne Bingham on countback to win the Ladies competition whilst the Men had an equally close competition in competing for the Heron-Audi Trophy. Simon Hall scored an excellent 41 points but lost on countback to Steve Collington who made sure his Captain’s Day will be one he will remember for a long time!!

Good luck to our Club Captain Steve Collington for an enjoyable Captain’s Day today at Southwell Golf Club. Steve is working tirelessly as Captain so on behalf of all of the members, we hope you have an enjoyable and memorable day.

Southwell Golf Club concluded the Seniors Club championship on Monday. After the first round, there was a tightly packed leaderboard with many players still in contention. Nett scores of 137 (Steve Best) and 138 (John Rushby) decided the 2nd and 3rd places but with an excellent 2-rounds total of 133, former Seniors Captain Ian Pollard took the top spot. Congratulations to Ian who is shown receiving the Morton Trophy from current Senior Captain Bob Porter.

An enjoyable weekend for the male golfers at Southwell Golf Club who took part in the Men’s Club Championship over Saturday and Sunday. After the first round, defending champion Sam Wright held a narrow one shot lead over Gerry Crerand (Junior) and Andy Duckmanton. Today, Sam managed to maintain his composure and became the Club Champion for the 3rd consecutive season. The Club Shield awarded to the golfer with the best nett score was won by Daniel Price whose two round nett total of 133 gave him victory on countback ahead of Steve Best. Many congratulations to the winners.
