🌿 Volunteer Day at Bray SSSI, Windsor 🌿
Come and help care for one of Berkshire’s most ecologically important sites!
Bray Meadows SSSI, just outside Windsor, is a designated Site of Special Scientific Interest due to its nationally rare lowland meadow habitat. It is home to a rich diversity of plants and insects, including the rare and protected pennyroyal (Mentha pulegium) - a small, aromatic herb that thrives in damp grassland and is now scarce in the UK.
Unfortunately, invasive species such as goat’s rue, thistles, and ragwort are starting to encroach on the site and threaten this fragile habitat. We're calling on volunteers to help tackle this issue.
📅 Volunteer Days:
1. Tuesday 10th June
2. Tuesday 24th June
3. Thursday 24th July
🕙 Time:
Drop in any time between 10:00am – 5:00pm. Whether you stay for an hour or the whole day, your support is greatly appreciated!
🛠 Tasks:
We'll be clearing scrub and removing invasive plants to help protect the rare pennyroyal and the unique meadow ecosystem.
👒 What to bring:
- Gardening gloves
- Shears or thistle pullers (if you have them - please let us know in advance what tools you're bringing)
📧 Let us know you're coming!
