🐝 It’s Don’t Step on a Bee Day!

At NatureBureau, we’re all about protecting pollinators, not just today, but every day 💚

Bees play a vital role in ecosystems and food production, yet they’re under threat from habitat loss, pesticides, and climate change 📉

Today’s a good reminder to watch your step, plant wildflowers, and let your lawn grow wild 🌿

Let’s give bees the space they need to thrive 🌼🌍

Tomorrow is National Meadows Day! 🌷🌿

Over 700 species of flowering plants live in meadows and they are incredibly important as a food source for pollinators and are massive carbon sinks 🌼🐝

However, due to changes in farming practices, the UK has lost approximately 97% of it's meadows in the last 70 years 📉

NatureBureau is playing a part in maintaining these amazing habitats through our SSSI management project for Pennyroyal (pictured in the right hand bubble) in Bray, Berkshire 💚🌱

As part of the management of the site our team organise volunteer days to pull scrub and invasive species, complete annual species presence surveys, and report to the landowners 🐞🦋

The next volunteer day is on 24th July so bring some gardening gloves and come along!!😍

✨ Last week, our Marine Team had the pleasure of attending the CIEEM Awards Luncheon in London.

NatureBureau was honoured to be shortlisted for Small Consultancy of the Year, alongside three other outstanding consultancies, and we were delighted to receive a Highly Commended award! 💚

We’re incredibly proud to have our team’s hard work and dedication recognised by and thoroughly enjoyed connecting with fellow nominees over a fantastic lunch.🍽

Congratulations to all the winners on the day, looking forward to seeing everyone again next year! 🎉

Day 1 of volunteer work complete! 🥳

Powered by chocolate brownies and ice lollies, our team removed hawthorn trees and cleared goats rue all day on Tuesday! This work will have a real impact on the health of this SSSI and the species in it! 🌻🌸🦋🐞

After that, our bat team went off to an emergence survey and installed a newly developed acoustic monitor to the client's tree to collect data on Brown Long-Eared bats, famously the most silent of them all 🤫🦇

A great day out in nature! 💚

🌊 Happy World Seaweed Day! 🌱

Today we’re celebrating the vital role seaweeds play in supporting marine ecosystems and fighting climate change.

At NatureBureau, our marine team is currently leading a project which is investigating the blue carbon storage in European waters, including coastal habitats where these species thrive 🌿

From vast kelp forests to coastal algal beds, these habitats not only provide shelter for marine life—they also store significant amounts of carbon ⛵

Understanding how much carbon is held in these systems is key to unlocking their value in climate policy and restoration efforts. We're proud to contribute to the science driving nature-based solutions 💚

🌿 Volunteer Day at Bray SSSI, Windsor 🌿

Come and help care for one of Berkshire’s most ecologically important sites!

Bray Meadows SSSI, just outside Windsor, is a designated Site of Special Scientific Interest due to its nationally rare lowland meadow habitat. It is home to a rich diversity of plants and insects, including the rare and protected pennyroyal (Mentha pulegium) - a small, aromatic herb that thrives in damp grassland and is now scarce in the UK.

Unfortunately, invasive species such as goat’s rue, thistles, and ragwort are starting to encroach on the site and threaten this fragile habitat. We're calling on volunteers to help tackle this issue.

📅 Volunteer Days:

1. Tuesday 10th June

2. Tuesday 24th June

3. Thursday 24th July

🕙 Time:
Drop in any time between 10:00am – 5:00pm. Whether you stay for an hour or the whole day, your support is greatly appreciated!

🛠 Tasks:
We'll be clearing scrub and removing invasive plants to help protect the rare pennyroyal and the unique meadow ecosystem.

👒 What to bring:

- Gardening gloves

- Shears or thistle pullers (if you have them - please let us know in advance what tools you're bringing)

📧 Let us know you're coming!
Please contact [email protected] to confirm your attendance and what equipment you'll be bringing so we can plan accordingly and provide more details.

Your time and effort will directly support biodiversity at a nationally important site. We hope to see you there!
