Come with me as we support Newcastle United Women as they play Crystal Palace away.

Crystal Palace Women play at the VBS Community Station which handily has a train station right outside.

Palace mascots Pete & Alice were waiting outside to greet us and there was an obligatory bag search asking us if we were smuggling in any Broon Ale (they always ask this!)

It's the smallest stadium I've been to (765 seated / 5000 capacity) and was built in the late 1800s so one of those stadiums where you can feel the history.

Pre-match entertainment included street food vans, games and face painting and hurrah there were no queues for the loo.

This stadium is part of drinking in the bowl AND they had an actual wine list so I got to enjoy a nice Sauv Blanc while watching the lasses warm up.

This was my first standing match. The travelling toon fans were super vocal with a chant for pretty much every player on the pitch and bench making the rounds. The Palace fans gave as good as they got too and there was a good atmosphere across the full stadium.

The lasses were down 2-0 until the final 10 minutes when we managed to score not once but twice to end with a respectable 2-2 draw. I reckon if we'd had an extra 5 mins we could have for another. You could feel the momentum!

Next game : 12 Oct (2pm) Bristol City at Gateshead

⚽ Derby Day at St James’ Park ⚽

BOOK TICKETS NOW FROM JUST £3

⚽ Newcastle United Women will host Sunderland A.F.C Women at St James Park on Sunday 16 November (2pm KO).

Book here: https://www.newcastleunited.com/en/news/the-lasses-are-back-at-st-james-park-this-november

🎟️ £8.50 per adult / £3 Juniors
🫶 All welcome

⚽ Last year this was an INCREDIBLE day with a record breaking attendance of 38,502 for the Women’s Super League 2 and a win for the toon thanks to Shania Hayles. It would be FANTASTIC to beat this record this year.

⚽ Experience the magic and roar of St James’ Park with Monty & Maggie, Wor Flags, the famous terrace chants and more. Bring your Black & White Scarves and voices!

⚽ It is a local derby and you can expect friendly banter between the two sides. However the women’s game is super friendly and welcoming with no hostility. Fans from both teams readily mix before the game and the chants are all clean and good natured. There are loads of families with kids and the atmosphere is really relaxed.

⚽ For those who don’t know or need a refresher, Newcastle and Sunderland play in the second tier of women’s football and this year, there’s a one-off chance for 3 teams to be promoted to the Super League. The league so far has been super competitive and it’s all to play for so I expect this to be a highly entertaining game. Both teams have plenty of quality in their squads and you can expect to see some ex-Lionesses in action.

⚽ NOT CONFIRMED but I expect there to be similar activities this year. Last year, the atmosphere and pre-match build up was fab with FREE Black & White face painting in the STACK before the game, Howay Again playing their Geordie Anthems before the match, FREE autograph cards available from the NUFC store, Black & White Flag Waving and Chants in STACK, FREE Meet & Greet / Fun with Monty & Maggie in the STACK and at the Stadium before the game and live drummers outside of the stadium. This fixture also falls on the first weekend of Newcastle Christmas Markets if you want to pop there beforehand.

🍟 St James’ Park actually serves up some cracking food inside the stadium. I absolutely love their salt & pepper chicken loaded fries if you’re after a bite to eat at half time.

🪑Where to sit? Everyone has their preference. Gallowgate is usually the nosiest where the loudest singers go, there is a safe standing section, away fans tend to sit in Leazes at the top (although this may be different for the lasses) and personally, I like to sit in East Stand between the half way line and Gallowgate as I reckon this gives a canny view and you can hear the noise of Gallowgate well without being in the thick of it. They tend to not open all of the blocks at the start and then open more areas up as the stadium starts to fill. I’ve sat in all of the stands and they all offer a good view (even Level 7!).

🖤 If you’d like to push the boat out, you can also book hospitality for £50pp which includes Director’s Box Seating, Deli Sandwich and Side, Tea or Coffee and a programme.

Photos are a selection from watching the lasses at St James’ over the years.

(ad) Just 41 days until Newcastle looks like this...... ⭐

Newcastle's Christmas Village is BACK at Old Eldon Square with festive vibes, vintage carousel, a BRAND NEW marshmallow land, christmas decor, photo ops and plenty of bookable activities which offer fantastic value.

I would recommend booking these ASAP as a lot of dates were a sell out last year. Santa in particular received rave reviews in our FB group with grown ups saying they had a proper laugh with him and it was just as good an experience for the adults as it was the kids.

Activities to book now:

🎅 Santa Stories : Step inside a cosy double tipi for a fun and interactive storytelling session with Santa and his elves. There will be time for a photo op and every child will receive a 'Nice List' certificate. Sessions last around 35 minutes and Santa shares a different story each time.

Wheelchair accessible and best for ages 2-8 years although all believers are welcome. Guide price: £28 for a family of 4. Book here: https://www.christmasvillagenewcastle.co.uk/santastories

🤶 Mrs Claus' Bakery : Join Mrs Claus (and the elves) in her festive bakery - the air is filled with the scent of fresh gingerbread and festive tunes will set the mood.

Guests are invited to decorate a special batch of christmas gingerbread cookies (which they can take home to enjoy) and will have the chance to create their own magical fairy dust in Santa's very own mixing bowl. There will be an opportunity for photos and this is the perfect indoor activity for those who may already have a visit with Santa booked elsewhere. It's a fab price too (£8 for 1 adult / 1 child).

Some allergies can be catered for if mentioned in advance. Book here: https://www.christmasvillagenewcastle.co.uk/mrsclausbakery

🍿 Festive Flix : The Rockin Reindeer Stage is being transformed into a pop-up cosy festive cinema with seating under twinkling lights, hot chocolate and popcorn for sale and lots of festive classics to choose from including Home Alone, Elf and The Polar Express. Absolutely perfect to book after visiting Fenwick's Window or a walk around the Christmas Market. Wheelchair accessible. From £7.50pp. Book here: https://www.christmasvillagenewcastle.co.uk/festiveflix

🎄Rockin' Reindeer Stage : And for something a little different which guarantees festive fun and smiles, how about catching a christmas show at the Rockin' Reindeer Stage?

Choose from Santa's Superstars, The Grinch, Ice Kingdom and/or Tinsel Tots. Suitable for all ages, wheelchair accessible and lasting around 30 minutes. There's seating inside (and you can bring your cuppa in) plus there's a chance to meet the characters and take a photo afterwards too. Tickets from £5.50pp. Book here: https://www.christmasvillagenewcastle.co.uk/rockinreindeer

The Christmas Village and all of these activities take place in Old Eldon Square in the centre of Newcastle (just outside Nandos) and are super easy to get to by Metro, Bus, Train or Car.
