Eddie Howe, who has been frustrated by a schedule that does not allow for as much training-ground time as he would like, got his players training under the late-night lights of St James’ Park after the Bradford game - led by Graeme Jones.

They will be back at the training ground tomorrow after a rest day today.

Newcastle’s players are set to learn tomorrow who has been promoted to the role of vice-captain, replacing Callum Wilson.

Fabian Schär, Joelinton, Nick Pope and Sandro Tonali are the thought to be the front runners.

Eddie Howe has overseen a democratic process with each player getting a 1, 2, 3 vote on their choice of a team-mate to join the leadership group.

It has been the chatter of the training ground in recent days as to who will win the coveted spot!

When Newcastle do make a final decision on whether to build a new stadium, or redevelop St James’ Park, the project will NOT be fully funded by the PIF, according to Craig Hope.

There has been an assumption among smmost fans that the club’s majority owners would write what has been described as a ‘once in a generation’ cheque to cover the cost.

However, Craig believes that a ‘pitch document’ has been circulated with a view to securing finance on the project and any debt would belong to Newcastle United in the long term, rather than PIF.

For example, if the cost of a new stadium is to total £2billion, it could be that half would be funded by PIF and the Reuben Brothers and half taken out as a loan.

Sources have stressed that this is standard practice and is the finance model used by other Premier League clubs when building new stadiums or redeveloping existing ones.

The Daily Mail has been reminded that PIF is ‘not a sugar daddy’ and that the key letter in their acronym is the ‘I’ for ‘investment’. Despite infrastructure costs falling outside the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules, the owners will make an investment decision and finance the project in the same way they would other ventures within the PIF portfolio. It is likely that a Special Purpose Vehicle - a new company - would be created to facilitate the stadium project.

If Newcastle do build a new stadium on Leazes Park, as is the supposed preference of the majority working on the project, then the hope would be that it becomes a self-sustaining asset as a multi-purpose venue, much like the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium which also hosts concerts as well as rugby and NFL games.

Newcastle United are set to land a compensation payout from FIFA after the injury suffered by Yoane Wissa on international duty, as part of the Club Protection Programme, an insurance scheme that covers clubs whose players are injured playing for their country and are then unavailable for more than 28 consecutive days.

So we should! He was mishandled by the Congo's management and subsequently got injured which has affected our start.

Wissa injured his knee during DR Congo’s 3-2 defeat by Senegal on September 9th, and the earliest he will play will be the trip to Brighton on October 18th

🇸🇦 It was the PIF who pulled the plug on William Osula’s deadline-day move to Frankfurt, according to Craig Hope.

They did so as Frankfurt changed the deal from a £30m transfer, to a £6m loan move with an option to buy. And given the situation with Wissa there is now a feeling of huge relief that the 22-year-old has remained on Tyneside, where he is currently our top scorer!

🇧🇷 Eddie Howe on Joelinton:

"He's combative, he's whole-hearted but ultimately, he does need to try to assist and score more. Tonight will do him the world of good, the minutes as well, because he's had a bit of stop-start time himself of late."

On this day in history back in 2013, Newcastle United beat Leeds United 2-0!

Cisse and Gouffran with the goals in a comfortable night for Newcastle United! Two assists from Sammy Ameobi that night too!

One of the best away ends I've seen at St James park also, as Leeds brought 7,500 fans up from West Yorkshire!

Todays 'Random Mag of the Day' is our former striker Lomano Lua Lua.

LuaLua was born in Kinshasa, but moved to England at a young age. After impressing in a college football match, he signed for Colchester United. There he scored a total of 21 goals in 68 appearances which prompted Newcastle United to sign him in September 2000 for a fee of £2.25m, after an earlier offer of £300,000, by former manager, Ruud Gullit, had been rejected. The much increased bid offered financial security and assistance towards a new ground and was one that Colchester could not turn down.

Bobby Robson thought that Lua Lua was a special talent on signing him:

"He has to learn how to play with the other players but he's a special new talent. He has to be nursed and cherished and taught. But we are buying long-term a very promising talent, a very promising player."

LuaLua signed a five-year contract at and made his first-team debut in a 1–0 home defeat to Charlton in September 2000 and made 23 league and cup appearances for Newcastle in the 2000–01 season without scoring.

He scored twice in our Intertoto Cup campaign at the beginning of the 2001–02 season but his first Premiership goal did not come until April 2002, when he scored a last-minute winner in a 3–2 away win against Derby County. He scored a further two goals in the remaining four games of the season. What a goal celebration he had! 😉

LuaLua's goalscoring form continued to the beginning of the 2002–03 season when he scored three goals in his first four games. Tougher competition for a first-team place meant that LuaLua made only 22 appearances in this season.

In January 2003, LuaLua urged Robson to rotate the squad, saying:

"I think I deserve a chance now, as do many of the lads on the fringes of the team. Although some people might have the idea that those of us not in the team like sitting on the bench and getting paid good money, nothing could be further from the truth. I'm not in this for the money, I want to play for the first team and show what I can do on a regular basis."

Lua Lua spent much of the beginning of the 2003–04 season on the bench and in November 2003, complained that he would consider leaving Newcastle.

This didn't please Bobby Robson:

"How dare he say this? I run this football club ... LuaLua has been a pretty poor professional about all this. What he should do is keep his mouth shut and get out there and do what he is paid for."

In the end, he made 88 league and cup appearances for Newcastle, scoring nine goals, having started 21 games and made 67 appearances as a substitute.

In February 2004, after returning from the 2004 African Cup of Nations, he joined Portsmouth on a three-month loan deal with a view to a permanent deal at the end of the season. During this loan spell he scored in the 89th minute in a 1–1 draw for Portsmouth against parent club Newcastle. The result lifted Portsmouth out of the bottom three of the Premiership. This also lead to a change in legislation for the FA introducing standard rules meaning a player on loan could not play against their parent club

He scored four goals in 15 appearances for Portsmouth as they finished in mid-table in their debut season in the Premiership. Harry Redknapp was sufficiently impressed with LuaLua's performances that when his loan spell ended at the end of the 2003–04 season, he signed LuaLua permanently at a cost of £1.75m.

Next followed spells at (checks list) Olympiacos, Al-Arabia, Omania, Blackpool, Karabükspor, Çaykur Rizespor, Akhisarspor Kulübü, Şanlıurfaspor, Merit Alsancak Yeşilova, Doğan Türk Birliği, Gìrne Halk Evì and Peterborough Sports. Phew!

He is currently the attacking coach for Spalding United.

What's your memories of the maverick striker?

I thought that Malick Thiaw and Sven Botman were excellent last night, and they have given Eddie Howe a huge headache. Who starts at the back going forward as Fabian Schär and Dan Burn have been brilliant for us also!
