As someone who cares about democracy and freedom of speech, the war being fought in Ukraine attacks all of that and more. International authorities must hold individuals to account, and those who are right now bravely documenting the current atrocities will undoubtedly be a part of that.

To help in a small way we've donated to Babylone’13, a Ukrainian association, which has created a Facebook fundraiser to support those working on the front line.

It angers and saddens me that the headlines dominating worldwide are not about the Football team but of the disgusting and damn right backwards thinking of a section of English people. It's not good enough to say, well, it's only a minority. Minority or not does not make it right. More needs to be done to treat this underbelly of thuggery and racism. I love football, what it brings to local communities and how it unites all across a nation. Those who are thugs or racists would do well to go back to the cave they belong to.

We made some history, but couldn’t achieve the one thing we’re all dreaming of.

But football is about more than trophies, and we’ve seen that all summer.

A team to be proud of regardless of what happens on Sunday. A team that is bringing together and welcoming one and all. There'll always be a minority of idiots, but boy, am I proud of the message being sent out from England football team. People who use their platform to try and bring about change should always be championed.

This year's England squad are defiantly anti-racist and pro-LGBT. The left should be encouraged, writes David Wearing: it's a sign that slowly, step by step, struggles to expand the collective 'we' are being won from the ground up.
