Helloooo freshers šŸ«”šŸ”„ā˜ŗļø

Welcome to filmsoc. We’ve got a lot of fun events planned for you this year, and these are just the beginning… šŸ˜

Every Monday we hold a film screening in BSTC 1.46 at 7PM, followed by a pub social. The first of these this year is of course… The Worlds End (following our tradition of screening one of the cornetto trilogy as our first of the year). Within the first 6 weeks of the first semester, offer taster memberships which can be ā€œpurchasedā€ via our NUSU page. You may use these to attend our first 6 screenings, after which a paid membership will be required.

Our first social of the year will be our trip to see megalopolis (details above). Again, you will be able to use your taster membership to buy our Ā£2 tickets (normally Ā£7 from Tyneside (you’re welcome 😘😘)). Tickets for this event are limited, so once they go live, make sure to grab one quick! We will announce this via our IG story and our WhatsApp chat.

We’re really looking to seeing you all this year, and will announce more events, workshops and socials in the days to come!

Our Story

Newcastle University Film Society is for anyone passionate about cinema! On Monday evenings (during term time) we screen films on campus, anything from Academy Award winners to cult favourites.

We create (write, cast, direct, and edit) short films that will be sent to various film festivals and competitions. As well as short films there will be opportunities to make music videos and promotional films. During the academic year we organise cinema trips, pub quizzes and lectures in film theory and history.

Through our email newsletter (sign up on the NUSU website) and our page stay up to date with key pieces of film news, trailer releases, in addition to different opportunities and events associated with film and television production (such as craft workshops, training and internships) with the BFI, Northern Film & Media, Creative England and BAFTA.

Film-Soc will also provide opportunities to link with pre-existing societies such as Newcastle Comedy Society and Creative Writing Society. If you’re another university society interested in collaborating with us, message our page or one of our committee members.
