Matt Greg Hello fellow Facebooker, my name is Matt Greg and I share my journey of running NOSY Marketing. The The good, the bad, and the ugly. Why?

Hello fellow Facebooker, my name is Matt Greg and I share my journey of running a business. Because I think that my posts can help people to avoid mistakes or repeat successes that we experience in our company. Since September 2018 I’ve run a marketing agency called NOSY, we are a team of 14 and reside on the beautiful Isle of Wight in the South of England. MY BELIEFS:

● Good marketing is about

making people feel a certain way: whether it’s happy, wanting change, wanting to be a part of a community, be motivated & inspired, angry, nostalgic, or surprised.

● Marketing will become more automated in the future. The thing that will remain human-made for the longest is the forming of a genuine connection; telling stories, causing feelings, and inflicting emotions.

● Customers are willing to pay more and stay longer with companies/individuals that make them feel listened to and valued. Use social media to drive conversations, not to shout about yourself.

● You don’t have to put on a mask and be someone else to be successful on social media.

● Content that you perceive as ‘perfect’ might not be so to others. It’s better to strive for consistency, not perfection.

● You cannot be everything to everybody on social media, it’s better to really resonate with
100 people than to be a commodity to 10,000.

● Getting ‘hate’ on social media is a manifestation of the abuser’s insecurities.

● Reviewing performance is important; ‘Why did that content do well and how can I repeat or further improve on it?’.

● You cannot preach something on social media if you do not practice it yourself.

● Your audience must walk away with something valuable after consuming your content; whether it’s a smile, new information, feeling of connection, or something else.

● Social media platforms will keep evolving, you have to do the same.

● It’s better to sacrifice pride and than to make another person feel miserable.

● The only person you should compare to and try to beat is you from a year ago. If you have any questions send me a message or email [email protected]

I got a bit nostalgic today: Solene and I were designing a menu for Paul Thorley for the Wessex Cancer Trust's 40th birthday event in November... and I got reminded of the early days of NOSY.

The business started whilst I worked in the hospitality industry: making websites/graphics during the day and cocktails at night. Designing menus like this one were a weekly occurrence.

Working in a customer service environment has definitely taught me how to communicate more effectively and to work under pressure. Both skills are highly helpful when developing a start-up business.

Have you ever heard of your 'Reptilian Brain'? In this video, I discuss storytelling (not BStorytelling), word-of-mouth, and building relationships.

Let me know what your experiences with marketing and emotions have been in the comments below :)

Over the past year, I’ve been using LinkedIn a bit more seriously. By ‘seriously’ I mean doing more than just making a profile, spam-connecting with the first 1,000 randomers (whilst on the toilet), and hoping that the customers start flooding through my door. It’s been interesting to see different types of content flourish. I’ve seen more video usage, storytelling, and humility. But I’ve also seen extensive sales messages and individuals trying to be something they’re not.

I’ve realised that along my journey with LinkedIn, I’ve developed 5 ‘LinkedIn Rules’ which I try to apply to the majority of my content and that’s what I’d like to share with you on this video:

#1: Ask yourself ‘Would I want to see this post?’
#2: Get rid of ego and don’t make others miserable
#3: Be yourself, being someone else is really tiring
#4: Perfect content just doesn’t exist
#5: You cannot be stationary in a world that’s constantly evolving
