Based in the Riverfront Theatre, COBRA Music Studios are a contemporary recording studio for traditional styles of music. We work predominantly with small ensembles, soloists and narrators at the studio, and are specialists in on-location recording, working with choirs, brass bands and orchestral ensembles across the UK.

We're heading into a busy season of music-making and storytelling — but we’ve got a few golden slots still available for recording sessions, voiceovers, and location work over the coming weeks!

Last year I had the absolute joy of recording an EP with the incredible Heartwood Chorus, Bristol’s 48 strong a ca****la folk choir known for their rich harmonies and emotionally charged arrangements.

Last month, we launched the EP in spectacular style at The Mount Without – an awe-inspiring venue that feels like a forgotten cathedral reimagined as a creative sanctuary.

It was an unforgettable evening of music, candlelight, and community, with guest performances from Nick Hart, Bowker and Morse, Heaps Morris, and The Swanning Folk – all threading their sounds through a night led by Heartwood’s breathtaking voices.

La Cocina is now out in the UK… and I GOT MY FIRST EVER MOVIE CREDIT!!! 😭🎉💥

Last year, we had the immense privilege of recording the phenomenal Bois Goetre-Hen Male Choir for this powerful new drama, directed by Alonso Ruizpalacios – who, might I add, took time out from directing Star Wars: Andor to be with us in the room! 🚀

It was a truly unforgettable session with MD Dale and accompanist Bethan, capturing the heart and soul of the choir for a major cinematic release 🎙️🎧🌟🎶

Fast-forward to this month – I watched the finished film at Chapter, Cardiff and… WOW. Hearing the choir featured so prominently, woven throughout the film, was such a surreal and proud moment. Seeing my name in the credits? Unreal. 🖤🍿

A huge thanks to everyone who made it happen, and especially the choir for asking me to be a part of their journey on this! More exciting Bois news coming up too... Go see La Cocina if you can. It’s raw, beautiful, and filled with sound that hits right in the heart.

We had an incredible time working with Ampersand, a collective of talented musicians from Newport and South Wales, capturing their unique fusion of reggae, rock, soul, and funk 🎸🥁🎷

Founded by the amazing Lindsey Freckleton, Ampersand is all about bringing artists together, blending musical styles, and creating something truly special. Their music isn’t just to be heard - it’s to be felt. ❤️🎶

We need to say a big thank you to Jordan COBRA Music Studios 💕 .
The final edits of the tracks we recorded in January have been shared with our members over the weekend.
It is fair to say that we are immensely proud of the results. They sound truely amazing 🤩.

Thanks also to Newport City Council for awarding us a grant as part of the initiative to help pay for the recording costs.

Well done everyone, we all worked so hard that day, the effort and professionalism put into the day by the singers, Lucy on piano, Rob directing and Jordan recording made it a fabulous day. Not to mention all the work and consultation that has gone on since!

Last night, Cross Keys Silver Band had the privilege of recording Newbridge, a brand-new brass band work by Daniel Hall, commissioned to celebrate the centenary of Newbridge Memo.

As a trustee of the Memo and a player with Crosskeys, it was a real honour to bring this piece to life, especially in collaboration with the talented Foundation Degree Media Production students from Coleg Gwent, who are producing a video to accompany the recording 🎙️🎥🌟

The video will premiere at the Newbridge Memo Gala Concert, hosted by Steve Speirs on Saturday 22nd March, just one highlight in a whole month of centenary celebrations! 🎉 Be sure to check out the Newbridge Memo page for all the exciting events happening throughout the month!🎭

We had an amazing time in the studio with Jez, Beth, Freya and Marianne! They came together to record some fantastic tracks, with their harmonies and musicianship creating something really special. Jez playing every type of guitar possible, Beth adding in some luscious viola lines, Freya going crazy with some insane Violin lines, with Marianne soaking up the magic in the control room 🎙️🎸🎻🎶

It’s always a privilege to capture moments like these—music made together as a family is something truly unique. Keep an eye (and ear!) out for what they’ve created! We're looking forward to editing the session this week!🤩🔥

We had a fantastic session with the incredibly talented Travis Jack Lewis, who brought his guitar and some serious artistry to the studio. He recorded a few tracks, including a stunning original piece and a beautiful cover of "Blackbird" by The Beatles. His raw, heartfelt vocals and intricate guitar work made for a truly special recording 🎙🎸🎶

I had the absolute pleasure of working with the insanely awesome Allan Waters and his fantastic team – Hannah, Rachel, Rhian and Tom in the studio to record some amazing musical theatre tracks! 🎭🎙✨🎶

These tracks will accompany string recordings we did last year for the tracks, adding a whole new layer of magic to the project 🎻

We had the pleasure of working with the incredible Luc Champs earlier this month! Luc came in and recorded a few covers, including a stunning track from the world of musicals. His insane vocal range was on full display, effortlessly moving from super high notes to deep, rich lows 🎭🎙🎶

We had the honour of working with Allegra Ladies Choir to record their upcoming album at the stunning St John Baptist Church in Newport. Conducted by the talented Rob Elliott and accompanied by the wonderful Lucy, the choir created something truly special in this beautiful setting 🎙🎹✨

Since its formation in 2011, Allegra has blossomed into a thriving and inclusive choir, with performances in prestigious venues such as St David's Hall, Wales Millennium Centre, and St Woolos Cathedral, all while raising thousands for charitable causes. Their passion for music and community is evident in every performance.

Rob Elliott brings years of experience to the choir, having mentored and directed choirs across Europe and at some of the UK’s most iconic venues. Lucy’s accompaniment adds a truly unique and beautiful layer to their sound.

We’re currently in the editing phase, but we can't wait for you to hear this beautiful collection of music. Stay tuned for more updates!
