One of our most frequently asked questions is about royalties, so let’s break this down using Amazon as an example - after all, they’re one of the most popular places to publish your book.

Here’s the straightforward breakdown of how Amazon royalties work when you publish your book (and yes, these go directly to you as the author):

For your ebook:

* 70% royalty when priced £2.99-£9.99
* 35% royalty under £2.99 or over £9.99

For your paperback and hardcover:

* 60% of your list price (minus printing costs)
* Hardcover naturally has higher printing costs

What does this mean in real terms?

Let’s look at a £9.99 ebook: You earn £6.99 per sale Amazon’s fee is £3.00

The lovely bit?

These royalties:
* Land in your account monthly
* Continue for as long as your book sells
* Can be tracked easily in your KDP dashboard
* Work whilst you sleep (my favourite part!)
