Whether you live here, left your heart here, or are just visiting, this is the page for you! Newry, from the Irish lúr Cinn Trá, meaning "Yew at the strand's head" - often shortened to An tlúr, is the fourth largest City in Northern Ireland and the eighth largest in Ireland. There is a population of around 30,000 in the town itself, and the wider Newry, South Armagh & Mourne area has an estimated

population of around 100,000. On 31st August, 1994 the people of Ireland - north and south - celebrated the official announcement of a ceasefire. From that day onwards N Ireland has been steadily growing and improving. In 2002 Newry received city status. This announcement brought with it a fresh hope and it was the main catalyst in converting Newry into the vibrant, fresh and fast growing city that it has become. The people of Newry, South Armagh & Mourne are warm, resilient and hopeful. They are constantly striving to excel in every way, allowing neighbours and visitors the chance to enjoy a wonderful place. Destination Newry, South Armagh and Mourne celebrates all that is good about our area. We provide information to locals, visitors and the Newry & Mourne diaspora about the area.
