🌉 Did you know the world’s oldest surviving single-span railway bridge is right here in County Durham?
Causey Arch, completed in 1725 without bolts or mortar, once carried coal wagons on the world’s first industrial railway and still stands strong 300 years later.
This weekend, Tanfield Railway is also celebrating its 300th birthday alongside Causey Arch – a shared celebration of industrial heritage! 🚂
You can still walk across Causey Arch today, hidden in beautiful woodland near Stanley, and watch steam trains pass by on the Tanfield Railway beside it.
Like and follow for more stories from the world’s oldest railway.
