No good deed goes unpunished.

So Aycliffe Radio are collaborating with Aycliffe & District Bus Preservation Society to put on a Kids Halloween night and disco at the bus museum to create some fun and raise much needed funds.

We thought paying to promote their advert might help to get the message out.

£25 seemed fair enough….

But Apple want a slice at £10.71

The tax people from who knows where want another £7.14

Add 26p of local fees whatever that is and it’s up to £43.11

Just to get Facebook to show people something nice.

So here’s a change of plan.

If 50 people like and share this we’ll give the £43.11 to the bus museum instead.

WARSHIPS OFF THE UK COAST – EXERCISE STRIKE WARRIOR 26

If you’ve noticed reports or photos of unusual naval activity around the UK’s northern and eastern waters, there’s a large Royal Navy exercise currently underway.

Exercise Strike Warrior 26 began on 21 September and continues until 9 October, involving more than 30 ships and aircraft. The Royal Navy says the exercise is taking place in waters to the north and east of the UK.

The training is designed to test naval forces against demanding threats and involves Royal Navy personnel working alongside other UK forces and NATO allies.

So if you spot an unfamiliar warship off the coast over the next few days, there may be a perfectly straightforward explanation.

💔 RIP Dame Esther Rantzen

Aged 86

Very sad news this evening that Dame Esther Rantzen, one of Britain’s best-known television presenters and campaigners, has died aged 86 following her battle with stage-four lung cancer.

For generations, Esther was a familiar face on British television. She became a household name as presenter and producer of the BBC’s That’s Life!, which ran from 1973 until 1994 and combined consumer investigations, serious social issues and plenty of humour.

Her contribution went far beyond television.

In 1986, she founded ChildLine, providing a lifeline for children and young people in distress, and later founded The Silver Line, helping older people experiencing loneliness.

Over a remarkable career spanning more than half a century, she worked as a journalist, producer and television presenter, appearing on programmes including That’s Life!, Hearts of Gold and Esther.

She was made a Dame in 2015 for her services to children and older people.

Whatever people remember her most for - her television career, her campaigning or the charities she created - there can be little doubt that Esther Rantzen’s work changed many lives.

A remarkable broadcasting career and an extraordinary legacy of helping others.

Our thoughts are with her children, grandchildren, family, friends and everyone who knew and loved her.

Rest in peace, Dame Esther. ❤️
