A new confrontation has exploded between the United States and Iran over the Strait of Hormuz. U.S. President Donald Trump declared that the United States would become the "Guardian of the Hormuz Strait" and oversee security in one of the world's most important shipping lanes. In a Truth Social post, Trump said the Strait would remain open and announced plans for the U.S. to be reimbursed through a 20% cargo fee for providing security. Iran responded with a sharp warning. Khatam al-Anbiya military command spokesperson Ebrahim Zolfaqari said Tehran would never allow the United States to interfere in the management of the Strait of Hormuz and warned that any regional country providing logistical support to U.S. military operations would bear responsibility for any expansion of the conflict.
