BONN – A fish mouth inspired filter removed more than 99 per cent of microplastic fibres from washing machine wastewater in early tests.

Researchers at the University of Bonn and Germany’s Fraunhofer UMSICHT said the prototype is designed to avoid one of the main weaknesses of existing add on filters, which can clog quickly or miss a significant share of fibres.

LONDON – The UK Advertising Standards Authority has banned paid Google ads from Nike, Superdry and Lacoste after ruling that each brand used sustainability language without adequate supporting evidence. The decisions form part of a wider ASA project examining environmental claims in the retail fashion sector. The ads were flagged through the regulator’s Active Ad Monitoring system, which uses AI to proactively scan online advertising.

This is the stark warning from trade body Euratex which says that in the first half of 2025, EU textile production fell by 1.9 per cent, while clothing output dropped 5 per cent. AMSTERDAM – Fashion for Good has published an open-source blueprint which sets out how tier-2 textile mills could move towards “net-zero” operations. The mapping focuses on a mix of best-available and emerging technologies.

Developed with Ahmedabad-based Arvind Ltd as the anchor supplier, the 62-page report focuses on dyeing and finishing of wovens and knits made from cotton, viscose and blended cellulosics in India. It models five technology “pathways,” from a new integrated greenfield plant to a series of retrofit options for existing knit and woven lines.
