UK’s childcare and work system will humble you! 😩

Imagine this—
👩🏽 Wife works day shift: 7:15 AM – 7:45 PM
👨🏽 Husband works night shift: 7:30 PM – 8:00 AM

Now, do the maths…
🔹 In the morning, there's a 45-minute gap between when the wife finishes work and the husband starts.
🔹 At night, there’s a 15-minute gap before the wife leaves and the husband returns.

Who will stay with the child during these gaps? The cold? The angels? 😭😂

That’s where the childminder search begins! And guess what? Some charge £5 per hour just to cover that small gap! So imagine paying £5 for 45 minutes in the morning and another £5 for 15 minutes at night—just for someone to hold your baby while you’re handing over shifts. 😩

Then when you finally find a proper childminder, BOOM—the price hits you like UK winter breeze! £50 a day? £70 a day? At this point, you start calculating if it's cheaper to quit work and babysit your own child. 😭😂

You people in Nigeria, enjoy o! At least grandma, aunty, or neighbor is always around to help. Here, even your own shadow is busy working shifts😩

At this point, should we just start babysitting each other’s kids for free? 😩😂

Know Your Priorities and Stick to Them!

Back in uni, I used to say, "No more than six bridesmaids. I want a low-key wedding." Life must have heard me and said, "LOL, we’ll see about that."

Fast forward to my fourth year, I lost my dad, and my perspective shifted. I decided I wouldn’t have a traditional wedding—just a simple in-house dowry paying ceremony.

When it was finally time to get married, my husband-to-be wasn’t even around for the introduction. So, we went ahead with the in-house dowry paying ceremony. As for the wedding, the plan was to do it in the UK after relocating. But let’s be real—relocation is expensive, and our families wouldn’t be able to attend. So, we decided to have a not-so-big wedding in Nigeria instead.

No printed invitations, just online invites. We booked a hall and got everything together in less than 10 days because my travel date was around the corner. Even the wig maker was shocked when I rushed her. She asked why I was in such a hurry, and when I said my wedding was in a few days, she paused, looked at me, and asked, “Wait… are you pregnant?” 😂

No asoebi, no bridesmaids—just us, walking into the hall together, dancing like we owned the moment. And guess what? The universe aligned. It was simple, beautiful, and perfect in its own way.

Moral of the Story:
• Do NOT let society pressure you. Set your priorities and focus on what truly matters.

• Communicate with your partner. It’s your wedding, not a community project.

• There’s no such thing as the “best” wedding. People will talk for a few days and move on, while you’ll be left with the bills.

• If you have the funds for a big wedding, go all out! But if not, do what works for you and enjoy your day without stress.

At the end of the day, a wedding is just one day, but marriage is for a lifetime. Focus on what makes you happy, not on impressing people who will forget in a week.

Whenever family visits from Naija, you already know the drill—we stock up on all our favorite local goodies. And when it’s time for them to head back, we make sure they’re not leaving empty-handed.

Packing these items was a whole experience. No matter how little, we made sure everyone got something. And guess what? Both bags came in at 23.6kg and 23.1kg—talk about perfect packing skills 😂 No extra luggage fees, no last-minute repacking at the airport (that thing Dey pain me eh 😩). Just vibes and blessings.

Nigerian Pólice Nearly Made Me a W!dow—Just 4 Days to My Wedding

This morning, while driving to London, my husband and I found ourselves talking about Nigeria. The same old question came up: Will it ever get better?

I still remember the night my heart almost stopped.

Four days before our wedding, my husband flew into Nigeria, excited to see his beautiful wife-to-be. He landed in Lagos and, in his eagerness, decided to take a taxi to Anambra at 2 p.m.

Unfortunately, he arrived in the East very late at night and couldn’t make it to Awka, where I was. So, he opted to head to Nnewi, his hometown, where his family had gathered after his father’s funeral.

Then came the nightmare.

At around midnight, as they approached Oba, they met a barricade on the road. His driver got down to remove the tires blocking their path. Out of nowhere, loud voices demanded to know who they were. It was the police.

They began interrogating them aggressively—where they were coming from, why they removed the barricade. Before they could even finish explaining, a shot was fired.

The bullet flew right over my husband’s head.

Pànic. Commótion. Fèar.

When he called to explain what was happening, I nearly lost my mind. The pólice refused to let them go. That late at night, I was desperately calling every pôlice contact I knew. My heart was racing. I could barely breathe.

His mother and the rest of the family were also in distress. Eventually, she managed to reach his uncle, and they both rushed down to the scene. That’s when the so-called "negotiations" began.

Can you believe these officers demanded he pay for the bûllet—the same bùllet that nearly k!lled him?😭

By some miracle, he made it home in one piece and came to see me in Awka the next day. But something in him had changed.

Since that night, my husband has carried a deep fear in his heart—fear of the very people meant to protect him. The first day he stepped into his own country, he was nearly shót dêad.

Now, I ask again… Will Nigeria ever be better?

Before I met Jucee, he was a full-blown Nollywood actor. Guess what roles he played? Igwe’s palace guard 😜 and a one-scene medical doctor 😁. My dear, he featured in multiple films and didn’t earn a single dime before he japa’d from Naija. Upcoming Nollywood actor na your mate? 😆

In fact, in those days, you wouldn’t just act for free—you’d even pay the directors just to appear in one scene 😭. When I met him, he was looking like one hungry man, but still forming “Nollywood actor” for me. I should have asked for a selfie that time😁

Fast forward to today, Jucee has decided to return to Nollywood. But this time, he’s not going back as a palace guard or a passerby. He wants to produce and feature in his own movie🎬💰

And this is where my problem starts 😩. My dear, how can I watch my own husband hugging and kissing other women on screen?? So I will now be crying and lamenting like Daniel Etim Effiong’s wife?? 😭 My heart is already heavy, and he hasn’t even started yet! I can already see myself side-eyeing any woman that comes near him 👀—even those that don’t know that husband is scarce.

This husband that I managed to secure, now I should share him with Nollywood actresses?? 😏 Make una help me ooo! Should I allow him to chase his dreams or should I switch off the TV before the kissing scenes start? 😭🤣

It doesn’t matter when you start—just start

Sometimes, when I’m chatting with colleagues, classmates, or friends, I realize that 90% of them have kids who are already 7 years old or older. And then, without meaning to, my subconscious starts whispering: "Is it because I got married late? Did I start having kids too late?"

Or when I see people doing better than me—whether financially, career-wise, or just looking like they have life all figured out—I catch myself thinking, "What am I not doing right? What is my family missing?"

But then, I remind myself: Relax, you are someone’s prayer point! There are people who would love to be where you are right now.

So if you ever feel behind in life, stop stressing. Your journey is different. Just do your best, trust the process, and leave the rest to God. Because, let’s be honest, life is not a competition—it’s not a 100-meter race where everyone is sprinting to the finish line. We all have our own pace, and that’s okay.

WHY YOU SHOULD NEVER DELETE YOUR CHATS! A TRUE STORY 😂

Keeping chats and messages is very important ooo. If you're one of those people who delete everything, repent now before it’s too late! Let me tell you how my keeping records saved us.

So, after our wedding, I moved to the UK and just two months later, we started processing my husband's visa. Everything was going smoothly until the agent handling our application said, "We need evidence of your relationship."

Me: "No problem, we are married. Here are our wedding pictures."
Agent: "That’s cute, but they need more proof. How do we show that you were in a relationship before marriage?"
Me: "Ah! After all the beautiful pictures I kept snapping 🙆‍♀️

The problem was, in the eyes of immigration, it was looking like we just met, rushed to the altar, and got married for visa purposes. Why? Because four days after our wedding, I had already packed my bags and left for the UK. The thing was giving ‘Contract Marriage’ vibes 😂

We thought our wedding pictures would be enough, but apparently, visa processing doesn’t rate wedding photos! They wanted real evidence—something to prove that we didn’t just meet on Monday and get married by Saturday.

Our agent suggested, "Just send them old pictures of when you were dating. Different dates, places, memories."

But guess what? WE HAD ZERO PICTURES 😩Why? Because we dated and courted online and only met four days before the wedding. And four days later, I was already on a plane to the UK. Love na express delivery😭😂

At this point, Jucee and I were looking at each other like "This visa don go." He has already resigned from his work in Dubai and can’t go back because UAE had stopped giving visas to Nigerians 😭. It was a nightmare.

Then the agent had another brilliant idea: "What about your old chats? That will work too”

This is where Jucee’s village people came for him. Because my dear husband—Chief Deleting Officer of the Federal Republic—had wiped everything 😭 All the romantic messages, all the sweet good morning texts, ALL GONE!

Me: "Baby, check your old messages, na."
Jucee: "Ah, I don’t keep things like that. My phone must be clean."
Me: "JESU! You don delete our whole love history??" 😭😂

At this point, I wanted to cry and roll on the floor. This man can delete messages for Africa! If you disturb him too much, he will even archive you😂

But God did not leave me stranded! 🙌🏾 I ran straight to my Messenger app, because that’s where we first started chatting. And BOOM! I found our very first conversations—from "Hi, how are you?" to “Baby I love you” to "Will you marry me?. I screenshotted everything like my life depended on it. Even some WhatsApp chats I managed to recover (though I lost most of them when I changed phones).

That was what we submitted—and Jucee got his visa! 🎉

MORAL OF THE STORY:
📌 If you’re one of those people deleting messages so nobody will catch you, continue ooo! One day, you will need proof, and that’s how you’ll be looking like Jucee—speechless! 😂😂

📌 Also, if your partner likes deleting messages too much, fear them. They are one step away from deleting you from their life! DON’T BE LIKE JUCEE! 😭😂😂
