My son’s face finally started to clear up with constant moisturisers, and for the first time in a while he became a little playful with his brother and his surroundings. During that whole period he slept mostly on my body, because I couldn’t bear to leave him alone. I wanted to carry as much of his suffering as I could, because it was too much for a baby to go through.

I prayed constantly. A friend of mine even used to call him Arunne—in Igbo it means one who is always stuck on his mother—because every time she called, I was always carrying him on my body. Even enemies were not happy about the level of irritation he was going through. But at last, things started looking better… until…

We even had to cut his hair. His beautiful full hair had been chopped into patches by eczema, and it was hard to manage. Cutting it gave us better access to his scalp so we could apply moisturisers and try to soothe the dryness. It wasn’t easy seeing his hair go, but his comfort meant more than anything else.
