📻 59 Years Ago Today, British Radio Changed Forever
On 14th August 1967, the Marine Broadcasting Offences Act came into force, bringing an end to most of Britain's offshore pirate radio stations.
For millions of listeners, stations such as Radio London, Radio City, Radio Scotland and Radio 270 suddenly disappeared from the airwaves overnight.
Only Radio Caroline continued broadcasting, remaining offshore until March 1968.
The pirate stations transformed British broadcasting. They introduced a new style of presenting, championed new music and changed the sound of British radio forever.
