We recently put an emergency call out for help with watering on behalf of Green Hearts and EDP picked it up. Attached are pictures of the areas we're asking for help with. Green Hearts work on or manage about 15 sites around Mile Cross and the 5 mentioned are the most sensitive ones where help is most needed. Unfortunately our local community post didn't provide the detail and context required for a news article. We're not asking for the grassy areas and shrubs pictured in the article to be watered, which as people have rightly said, would be irresponsible. The areas we're asking for are community beds of wildlife habitats, polininator patches, edible produce and ornamental planting, that would not survive without help, or bounce back like grass and shrubs would. These are areas managed by volunteers, that a lot of our own time, hard work and resources go into, it's not paid for or run by the council. Having thought about it, we would have liked to say that our piece is a quickly thrown together emergency call out but we are launching a proper campaign around water. There are also things we'd like to say, such as other community gardens and parks around Norwich would probably appreciate receiving water too, and the importance of providing water for wildlife and keeping wildlife ponds topped up manually for them to drink from. And of course that should you water in the sun, please water the soil, and try your best not to water the leaves and flowers, but of course that's a risk you take with a call to action.
