‼️PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT!

We won’t be processing orders placed between the 20th of December and the 2nd of January until the New Year as this is our closure period. By that we mean, we really need a bit of a rest (as we’re sure you do too!). Cloud Labour by Sabrina Huang, translated by Lin King, is illustrating our point very nicely here.

💤Please note that our social media accounts will also not be monitored during this time – we’ll be back to business as usual on Thursday 2nd of January!

🎉We hope you have a restful festive period, Strangers!

Our Story

Translation imprint of the UEA Publishing Project. We believe in literary translation as a powerful vehicle for enriching cultural exchange.

We are based in Norwich, UK, UNESCO City of Literature, and are dedicated to publishing the finest literature in translation in collaboration with the British Centre for Literary Translation, University of East Anglia, and Writers' Centre Norwich.

We take our name from The Strangers of the 16th century: a group of economic migrants from the Spanish Netherlands invited to help boost the nation's textile industry. Our logo references a Flemish gable -- in connection with their legacy -- and suggests transition from one state to another.
