After using the geared head from Leofoto for over a year now, and using the legs for the past 10 months, I have jotted down some of my thoughts on the setup and how it has performed on loads of landscape adventures.

This was taken a few moments after the last image I posted from our second evening in Devon.
That evening, we’d made our way down to the small coastal hamlet of Bucks Mills, aiming to make the most of golden hour. With the tide starting to recede, we arrived with plenty of time to explore the beach and some of the distinctive large rocks that litter the shoreline.
As the sun began to lower in the sky, we gradually followed the tide out, discovering new compositions as more of the rocks and shoreline revealed themselves. The light became softer and warmer, and the whole place took on that magical, fleeting glow you only get at the very end of the day.
After we’d been shooting for a while and the sun finally began to dip below the horizon, I climbed up onto one of the larger rocks to get a slightly elevated perspective. From that vantage point, I captured this image, where Black Church Rock sits on the horizon.
Feel free to give the image a share.

On our second evening in Devon, we made our way down to the small coastal hamlet of Bucks Mills for sunset — and what a location it turned out to be. The walk down is fairly steep, winding through woodland and opening out onto a rugged, pebbled shoreline, but the effort is absolutely worth it. The moment you step out onto the beach, you're met with an atmosphere that feels wild, raw, and full of character.

For this shot, I positioned myself right at the water’s edge, focusing on a solitary marker post standing firm against the seascape. In the distance, you can just make out Blackchurch Rock, a distinctive arch-shaped formation that adds a striking element to the background, which Facebook has more than likely compressed the living daylights out of.

What really drew my eye in this composition, though, was the foreground. The rocks were dark and dramatic, but one in particular had a bold white vein slicing right through it, a natural contrast that stood out beautifully against the moody tones of the rest of the scene. I was keen to capture that subtle interplay between detail and drama.

On our final morning in Devon back in April, we took a short but beautiful walk from our accommodation along the clifftops. Our goal was to reach a vantage point that offered a sweeping view looking back into Westward Ho! and it didn’t disappoint.

We really lucked out with the sunrise that morning. The sky lit up with a palette of soft pastels and rich golden tones, casting a gentle glow over the coastline. It was one of those fleeting moments where everything aligns just right, and we were in the perfect place to enjoy it. Not long after capturing this scene, we made our way back for a well-deserved, hearty breakfast, the ideal way to warm up after an early start.

When we first arrived at the spot, we spent a bit of time experimenting with different compositions, trying to find the best way to do the landscape justice. In the end, I opted for this panoramic approach, which allowed me to include the full curve of the bay as well as some of the surrounding cliffs. It helped set the scene and provided a real sense of scale and drama to the image.

This shot was captured using my Fujifilm UK & Ireland GFX 50S II, supported by my trusted Leofoto tripod. I also used my set of Kase Filters UK to balance the exposure and bring out the detail in both the sky and foreground. It’s a frame that brings back great memories of a peaceful morning on the coast, and a fitting way to wrap up our time in Devon.

One of the very few images I managed to capture at the tulip fields this year came during the setup for our model shoot with Ed Mondo and what a memorable shoot it turned out to be. While we were still positioning the lighting and getting everything ready, I grabbed this shot, and it instantly became one of my favourites from the day.

We were using the Godox AD300 Pro paired with a 60cm Octabox, which I’d only just picked up from EssentialPhoto & Video. Despite its compact size, the light packed a punch and was incredibly versatile, just what we needed on location. The wind, however, had other ideas! We had to weigh the stand down pretty heavily to stop it from toppling over, but that’s all part of the fun when shooting outdoors.

What really made the image for me, though, were the brooding, low-hanging clouds that rolled in while we were setting up. We did get a bit wet in the end, but the moody atmosphere they created added such a dramatic edge to the shot that it was well worth the soak and all the attendees seemed to be having a fantastic time.

Captured using the Fujifilm UK & Ireland GFX 50sii and the 100-200mm lens at 153mm, this image is a nice reminder that sometimes the in-between moments, the ones that happen on the fly, before the official shoot even begins, can be just as powerful as the final polished frames.
