Victoria Manthorpe's book, Different Drums, about conscientious objection, began when she inherited a cache of her Quaker grandfather’s letters from prisons and work camps during WWI. What she didn’t know was that this small family archive also included some her father’s and uncle’s letters, diaries and papers from World War II, and her grandmother’s letters written, even as the bombs fell on Norwich, during the so-called Baedeker raids. This talk follows Victoria's exploration of changing attitudes between the two world wars.

Different Drums was shortlisted in the 2024 East Anglian Book Award in the category of History and Tradition. It will be on sale at the talk - payment by cash or cheque.
