One of the questions we get asked the most is whether we can offer feedback on submissions to Hinterland, or if we can help writers develop their work. Up until now this hasn’t been something we’ve been able to offer — but we’ve long had plans to. Today we’re pleased to announce our new Manuscript Assessment and Mentorships, two separate services that will help you to meet your writing goals.

Whether you’re working on an essay or an essay collection, a travel article for a magazine or an epic adventure, a life in brief or a whole biography, the Hinterland editors are on hand to mentor you for every step of the writing journey. Our mentors are talented publishers, editors and tutors, experienced at working with writers of all skill levels, writing in all genres of non-fiction.

What is Hinterland?

Hinterland is a new magazine dedicated to publishing the best creative nonfiction writing.

Hinterland offers an answer to the question ‘what is creative non-fiction?’ by showcasing the best new writing across the fields of memoir, essay, travel and food writing, reportage, psychoscape, biography, flash non-fiction and more. Our pages bring together work by established, award-winning authors alongside new writers, many of whom we are thrilled to publish for the first time and whose work, we promise, will merit your full attention. Often, the pieces you’ll find in Hinterland will straddle the boundaries between strands and be difficult to classify: we see this as a strength. Hinterland intends to challenge, move, entertain and, above all, be a fantastic read.
