To have a heart for the community is one thing but to seek out the marginalized, to give them a voice, to give them a face, to show the stark and harsh reality of the struggles takes a very special person.

Jim Motrum is that special person.

His photos are striking, beautiful but haunting. As one of those stories Jim has brought to the light in his books, in his blogs I can say with certainty that we are never a subject, we are friends, we are family.

Jim doesn’t just bring photos and stories, he brings heart, love and a generous gentle spirit.

My friend Kelly was the first to buy the early sessions book as soon as it went live on kindle. She sent me this x

On my 8th birthday I was told I was Adopted. This gave me an existential and identity crisis and still only 8.

At 10 I took my 1st drug.

At 12 I was being sexually abused by adults in the UK Special school system.

At 14 I found myself in certain Anonymous meetings when I was also being trafficked and passed around between the teachers and adults that put me there.

At 17 I left home

At 18 I lost a friend to murder

At 20 my best friend killed himself in front of me. I became a violent man, a criminal.

I struggled with addiction
At 21 I found myself incarcerated

At 23 I tried to turn my life around

At 35 I found myself separated

At 36 Homeless and Addicted to drugs

At 37 I got sober after I fell in love with the woman who served me coffee at a foodbank.

At 38 I fell deathly Ill of TB, type 2 lung failure, pluercy and had a total Psychological Breakdown

At 40 I wrote my first book, I consulted on my 1st Hollywood film.

At 41 I spent 6 months working with escapees of human trafficking, sexual slavery and exploitation and wrote a book about

At 41 I lost my biological mother to cancer and my 2 day old niece to murder with 2 months of each other. Within the year the man who took her life was murdered in his prison cell by his cell mate.

I forgave him for my own healing.

At 42 I worked on a Second Hollywood film

At 43 I started a live podcast

At 48 I have written 5 books, supplied to 5 other books. I regularly speak to medical professional about working with addicts, worked on countless films and television projects and I now talk about my life.

Just over 11 years sober

Anyone can change their lives if given the opportunity.
