đź“–TRANSLATING JOHN CROME: THROUGH SIGHT TO INSIGHTđź“–

This book considers and translates the paintings and etchings of John Crome (1768–1821), founder of the Norwich School of Artists, through and into other 'languages' or media, verbal and pictorial.

These are translations in the sense of transformations into new languages designed both to incorporate the perceptual and existential responses of the 'translator' to examples of Crome’s work and to project those works into possible cross-medial futures. The book is as much about 'looking' across media as it is about John Crome.

🎉We’re so excited to share that A Juvenile Miscellany has won The Literary Encyclopaedia's biennial prize for Scholarly Editions.

Edited with an introduction by Hilary Emmett & Thomas Ruys Smith, this anthology of Lydia Maria Child’s writing for children was produced in collaboration with students from the Department of American Studies at UEA!

📖This anthology brings together a career-spanning collection of Child’s writing for children which demonstrates the extraordinary richness and range of her vital work in this field. As she shaped the idea of what children’s literature could be and do, Child trusted her young readers to understand difficult questions of social and racial justice, explorations of natural and national history, sentimental domestic sketches, and much more besides.

We’re over the moon that this incredible piece of collaborative work has been recognised in an international prize! Huge congratulations to everyone involved in this wonderful publication.
