🥺
Ever wonder why R2-D2 never listens when Luke tells him to stay with the ship? Most people laugh it off, but there’s a real emotional reason behind it.
The last time R2 was told to stay with the ship was on Mustafar. Anakin, the Jedi he loved most, the one who had been with him through everything, told him to wait. So R2 stayed. He obeyed. He watched Anakin disappear into that building, and that became the last time he ever saw him as the person he once was.
That moment wasn’t just a turning point for Anakin. It was one for R2 as well. He never saw Anakin again after that day. Not the real Anakin. Not the one who treated him like more than a droid. That goodbye, though silent, was final. R2 never got closure. Just loss.
So when Luke tells R2 to stay behind, R2 refuses. Because in his memory, staying put means never seeing someone again. It means losing someone you care about and being powerless to stop it.
R2 doesn’t disobey out of stubbornness. He does it out of fear. Out of love. Out of pain. He doesn’t want to make the same mistake again.
It’s never spoken in the films, but once you see it this way, it changes everything. R2 remembers. R2 feels. And that quiet little droid is carrying more heartache than anyone ever realized.
