It's time to stop saying "someday." It's time to stop talking about it and actually do it. Get in the chair. Open this writing guide. And start working.
This is a workbook, of sorts. It's a guide that asks you to engage. Do the Work and Key Elements are things to make you stop and focus and try your hand at whatever it is we're talking about in that chapter.
This is your sign to stop putting off that story in your head and heart, and make this the year you get moving. We'll be right here with you.

The title isn't subtle.
This is what we're asking you to do. We want you to get in the chair. We want you to do the work. We're going to give you absurd examples, a little bit of swearing, and a lot of encouragement. That's what this writing guide is: real information, tips, prompts, and a strict admonishment to stop procrastinating and do the work.
We've got you. Let's have some fun.

Yeah. We hear them. They call and call, the spam of your mind ready to sell you stock in snacks and laundry and cleaning out that gunk between your shower door and the little plastic groove beneath it.
Ignore the call.
You don't want to hear the spiel. Instead, get your butt in the chair. Grab a drink, open this writing guide, and let's get to work.

We all take different amounts of time to write. Some people manage 200 words a day. Some people manage 8,000 per day. The thing is: they're both writing every day. That's what a writer does: they write until the book is finished. Maybe not even every day. Life gets busy.
But a writer is someone who makes sure they write and keep going until it's done. Whatever that may be. A painter paints, a carpenter builds stuff, a writer writes.
So let's get going. Let our writing guide help you get from wherever you are to the end. We'll do it together.

25/07/2026

This isn't that kind of writing guide. We're not going to tell you to get in touch with your muse (she's busy). We're not going to tell you it's okay if you're not feeling inspired (tough).
We're going to tell you what you need to know and we're going to ask you to Do The Work all the way through the writing guide. We're going to swear a little, laugh a lot, and tell you that getting this story done?
That's down to you getting in the chair and getting started. Let's do it. Now. Today.

And wouldn't it be a shame if it never got written? That story in your head is waiting for YOU to tell it. But in order for that to happen you need to get in the chair. You need to put in the time, effort, and craft work that creates the magic that is a story created in your head.
We're here with you in this writing guide to take the journey with you. So let's do it. Now. Together.

This sounds really harsh, doesn't it? But there's a deeper meaning to it.
The reason the instructor can't make you a writer? Because they can't actually force you to write. They can give you all the tools, like we do in this writing guide. They can encourage (we do that too) and they can cajole (we do some of that).
But if you don't get your butt in the seat, if you don't make it a priority, then nothing you learn will help you become a writer.
Writers write.
So get your butt in the chair. We'll help, but you need to be the one to start.

This is a perfect truth. You can't really argue with it.
Here's the truth we talk about in the book: you can edit crap. You can make it better. You can change and polish and get feedback on a first draft.
But a blank page is...nothing. Until you put something on it.
So put something on it and fix it later. Get started and let us help you move forward.

21/07/2026

Know what? I'm guilty too. I can find a million reasons not to get in the chair. Laundry, bird watching, scrubbing the pineapples we won't eat...anything at all to avoid that blank page.
What gets me in the chair? None of those excuses will get the book written, and I want my book out in the world. If I don't get in the chair, the story never sees the light of day.
And that's not acceptable. So leave the pineapples. Let someone else do the dishes.
Get in the chair and start writing. No more excuses.

20/07/2026

This is it. The baseline of the book. The foundation we want you to grow from.
Sit down and get started. Stop telling yourself you can't do it. Stop with all the time excuses and self-doubt.
Get started. We're here with this guide to give you writing tips and prompts all the way through. So let's do it together.
