SOMETIMES, ONE QUESTION CAN SAVE YOU YEARS OF REGRET.

A young man was excited about a new job.

The salary was attractive.

The company promised opportunities for growth.

He accepted immediately.

Three months later, he discovered that the working hours were longer than expected, overtime was unpaid, and several important conditions had never been explained.

He had been so excited about getting the job that he forgot to ask questions.

This happens in everyday life.

People enter business partnerships without discussing how profits will be shared.

Some borrow money without understanding the repayment conditions.

Others sign agreements without reading what they are accepting.

And when problems arise, they say:

“If only I had known.”

But sometimes, the information was available. They simply didn’t ask.

Being careful doesn’t mean you are negative or difficult.

It means you understand that decisions have consequences.

Before accepting an offer, signing an agreement or making a financial commitment, take time to understand what you are getting into.

A few uncomfortable questions today may prevent bigger problems tomorrow.

Have you ever regretted not asking an important question before making a decision?

SOMETIMES, STRANGERS SEE YOUR VALUE BEFORE PEOPLE WHO KNOW YOU.

Imagine someone who has spent years learning a skill.

They can repair computers, design websites or provide a professional service.

Their friends know them.

Their relatives know them.

But whenever someone needs that service, they recommend somebody else.

Not necessarily because they dislike the person.

Sometimes, they simply don’t know what that person can do.

Other times, they still see the person they knew many years ago.

Meanwhile, a complete stranger discovers their work online, appreciates their skills and offers them an opportunity.

This happens more often than we realise.

People who know your past may not always know your present abilities.

That is why developing a skill is important, but making your work visible also matters.

If you have something valuable to offer, don’t assume everyone already knows.

Talk about your work.

Show examples of what you can do.

Build a professional profile.

Let people see how you can solve problems.

You don’t need to boast or pretend to be more successful than you are.

Just make your abilities visible to the people who may need them.

And remember, your next opportunity may come from someone who has never met you.

Don’t wait to be discovered by people who don’t know what you do.

Have you ever received more support or opportunities from strangers than from people you know personally?

SOMETIMES, THE ANSWER IS NO BECAUSE YOU NEVER ASKED.

Imagine seeing a job advertised.

You have most of the skills, but not everything listed.

You look at the requirements and tell yourself:

“They won’t employ someone like me.”

So you don’t apply.

A few weeks later, you discover that someone with similar experience got the job.

Not because they were necessarily better than you.

But because they applied.

The same thing happens in business.

You see someone who could become a customer, but you are afraid to introduce your product.

You need advice from someone experienced, but you assume they won’t respond.

You want to learn something new, but you convince yourself that you are too old to start.

Sometimes, rejection happens in our minds before anyone has actually rejected us.

Of course, not every application will succeed.

Not everyone will respond positively.

And some opportunities have requirements you genuinely must meet.

But don’t make the decision for people before giving them the opportunity to consider you.

Ask the question.

Send the application.

Introduce your business.

Reach out professionally.

You may receive a NO.

But you might also receive the YES that changes your direction.

Don’t reject yourself before the world gets a chance to decide.

Have you ever received an opportunity you almost didn’t apply for or ask about?

HAVING CUSTOMERS DOESN’T ALWAYS MEAN YOU HAVE A BUSINESS.

Imagine someone who sells products through WhatsApp.

Every day, customers send messages.

Orders are coming in.

Money enters the bank account.

From the outside, everything looks successful.

But ask one simple question:

“How much profit did you make last month?”

They cannot give an answer.

Why?

Because the money received from customers is also the money used for food, transport, family expenses and personal shopping.

There are no proper records.

No clear separation between business and personal money.

And sometimes, they don’t even know how much stock is left.

Sales are not the same as profit.

You can sell ₦2 million worth of products and still struggle financially if your costs are too high.

The same applies whether you trade in naira, pounds or dollars.

A business needs more than customers and a phone.

It needs records, planning and financial discipline.

Start small if you must, but treat what you are building seriously.

Don’t just celebrate the money coming in. Understand the money going out.

Do you think most small businesses fail because of poor sales or poor money management?

SOMETIMES, THE BIGGEST SECURITY THREAT IS SOMETHING YOU CAN HOLD IN YOUR HAND.

Imagine arriving at your office one morning.

You find a USB flash drive lying near the entrance.

Nobody knows who owns it.

Out of curiosity, you plug it into your office computer to find out what is inside.

A few files appear.

Nothing looks suspicious.

You remove the drive and continue working.

But what if that USB drive was deliberately left there?

What if connecting it allowed malicious software to run or exploited a weakness in your computer?

This is one way criminals can attempt to compromise computer systems.

And here is where digital forensics becomes interesting.

If investigators suspect an attack, they may examine USB connection records, system logs, suspicious files and other digital evidence to understand what happened.

They may even discover that a device was connected at a particular time.

However, a USB connection record alone does not prove that someone deliberately installed malware.

The lesson?

Not every security threat arrives through an email, suspicious website or phone call.

Sometimes, curiosity itself becomes the opportunity an attacker is waiting for.

Never connect an unknown USB device to your personal or workplace computer. Report suspicious devices to the appropriate IT or security team.

If you found a USB drive outside your workplace, would you plug it into a computer to identify its owner?

YES or NO? Why?

YOU CAN AFFORD THE MONTHLY PAYMENT, BUT CAN YOU AFFORD THE DEBT?

Imagine walking into a shop to buy a phone.

The price is £800.

You cannot afford to pay everything at once.

But the salesperson tells you:

“Don’t worry, you can pay just £40 every month.”

Suddenly, the phone looks affordable.

You sign up.

A few weeks later, you buy furniture on credit.

Then a television.

Before you realise it, several small monthly payments are taking a large part of your income.

And the worst part?

You may end up paying much more than the original prices because of interest and charges.

This is how people sometimes fall into financial pressure without noticing.

A small monthly payment does not always mean a small financial commitment.

Before buying something on credit, ask yourself:

Can I afford the total cost?

How much extra am I paying?

What happens if my income stops tomorrow?

Credit is not always bad. It can be useful when managed responsibly.

But borrowing to maintain a lifestyle you cannot comfortably afford can become a serious burden.

Don’t allow the excitement of owning something today to create unnecessary financial struggles tomorrow.

Have monthly instalments made expensive things look cheaper than they really are?

A BIG SALARY DOESN’T ALWAYS MEAN FINANCIAL FREEDOM.

Imagine two friends.

One earns £4,000 every month.

The other earns £2,000.

Naturally, you might assume the first person is doing much better financially.

But look a little closer.

The first person spends £3,800 monthly on rent, bills, car payments, subscriptions and other expenses.

The second person spends £1,400 and saves £600.

At the end of the month, who is building a stronger financial position?

The person earning more has £200 left.

The person earning less has £600.

Of course, everyone’s responsibilities are different. Some people have higher expenses because they support families or live in expensive cities.

But here’s the lesson.

How much you earn matters. How much you keep and what you do with it also matters.

A higher salary can improve your life, but increasing your lifestyle expenses every time your income rises can leave you struggling.

Sometimes, financial progress begins with understanding where your money goes.

Before comparing your income with someone else’s, remember that you may not know their financial commitments.

Don’t just work towards earning more. Learn how to manage what you earn.

Which is more difficult today: EARNING MONEY or KEEPING MONEY?

BEING BUSY DOESN’T ALWAYS MEAN YOU’RE MAKING PROGRESS.

Imagine someone who wakes up at 5 a.m. every day.

They answer messages, attend meetings, make phone calls and move from one activity to another.

By evening, they are completely exhausted.

Ask them how their day went, and they reply:

“I’ve been very busy.”

But ask what they actually achieved, and they struggle to give an answer.

Now imagine another person who spends just two focused hours learning a valuable skill, completing an important task or working towards a clear goal.

Who has made more progress?

The truth is, activity and achievement are not always the same thing.

You can spend months applying for jobs without reviewing why your applications are unsuccessful.

You can post on social media every day without understanding what your audience needs.

You can run a business from morning until night without knowing whether you are making a profit.

Being hardworking is important.

But hard work without direction can leave you exhausted and frustrated.

Sometimes, what you need is not more hours.

It is a better approach.

Before ending your day, ask yourself:

“What did I achieve today that moves me closer to where I want to be?”

And remember, rest is important too. Not every productive day has to be filled with work.

Which do you think matters more: WORKING HARD or WORKING SMART?

BE CAREFUL WHAT YOU NORMALISE.

Imagine someone who constantly arrives late to work.

At first, they apologise.

After some time, they stop apologising.

Eventually, lateness becomes normal to them.

The same thing happens in other areas of life.

You borrow money and fail to repay it.

You make promises and repeatedly break them.

You spend beyond your income and depend on others to survive.

You treat people badly and expect them to understand.

When something happens repeatedly without correction, it can gradually become a habit.

And the dangerous part?

You may stop seeing anything wrong with it.

Sometimes, what holds people back is not a lack of opportunities but habits they have become comfortable with.

Of course, everyone makes mistakes, and difficult circumstances can affect our behaviour.

But recognising a problem is often the first step towards changing it.

Ask yourself:

What am I doing today that could become a bigger problem tomorrow?

Not everything you have become used to is good for you.

What is one bad habit society has gradually accepted as normal?

I DO HAVE A CHOICE.

Sometimes, life makes you feel as though you have no options.

You remain in a job that drains you because you have bills to pay.

You stay in a relationship where you are no longer happy because you fear starting again.

You continue doing something you don’t enjoy because you don’t know what else to do.

And gradually, you begin to believe that this is how your life must remain.

But consider something.

What if you have more choices than you realise?

You may not be able to leave that job today, but you can begin preparing for another opportunity.

You may not have the money to start your dream business, but you can begin researching, learning and planning.

You may not be able to change your circumstances immediately, but you can decide how to respond to them.

Of course, not everyone has the same opportunities. Financial responsibilities, family circumstances and other challenges can limit our options.

But having limited choices is not always the same as having no choice.

Sometimes, the first decision is not to walk away.

It is to start preparing for something different.

You don’t have to change everything today.

You can start by changing one thing within your control.

Because the life you are living today does not necessarily have to be the life you live forever.

I DO HAVE A CHOICE.

And even when my options are limited, I can look for ways to create better ones.

What do you think keeps people in situations they are unhappy with: FEAR, MONEY or RESPONSIBILITIES?
