Messi has teammates who are willing to run, press, fight, and give everything for him on the pitch. Every Argentina player knows his role, respects him, and works tirelessly to help him succeed.

With Portugal, I sometimes look at the team and wonder whatโ€™s missing. The talent is there, the quality is there, but too often Ronaldo is isolated. He rarely gets the service he needs, rarely gets enough chances, and sometimes looks disconnected from the players around him.

Argentina play for Messi with complete belief. They follow his lead and trust him completely. Portugal have great players too, but they donโ€™t always show that same unity and sacrifice around Ronaldo. Thatโ€™s one of the biggest differences Iโ€™ve noticed.โ€

So I just woke up, came online and apparently United and Portugal fans are brutally hating on Bruno because of Ronaldo?

Bruno's latest Instagram post now has over 25,000 comments, with fans flooding the comment section, demanding that he pass to Ronaldo more often and some even insulting him.

I am a Cristiano Ronaldo fan, but before that, I am a Manchester United supporter and a football fan. That means I will always back players who represent my club, especially someone like Bruno Fernandes, particularly when the criticism is unfair.

National team trophies:
Ronaldo without Bruno: 1 trophy
Ronaldo with Bruno: 2 trophies

No player has created more chances for Ronaldo in a Portugal shirt than Bruno since he became a regular for the national team. Yet somehow he's the jealous one who supposedly hates Ronaldo?

I'm honestly not surprised by the criticism. A lot of Ronaldo fans struggle with critical thinking when it comes to discussions involving Ronaldo. What frustrates me the most is that most of the people harassing Bruno are supposedly Manchester United fans. They're the ones enabling this kind of ridiculous behaviour.

Being one of the greatest players of all time does not make Ronaldo immune to criticism. Likewise, supporting Ronaldo should not mean finding a scapegoat every time he has an off day.

Football doesn't work like that.

You can support Ronaldo, appreciate everything he has achieved and still acknowledge when he underperforms. Just as you can support Bruno without viewing every discussion as an attack on Ronaldo.

At the end of the day, both Ronaldo and Bruno are trying to help Portugal win. Turning teammates against each other only hurts the team.

The 23-year-old was arrested on suspicion of match-fixing offences less than two weeks before the tournament began.
