In case you missed the Al Andalus exhibition at , here's a little insight into what went down. got to see on a giant surface exactly how incredible her debut animations were, and we both got to see our efforts pay off.

It’s springtime at last; and as the bluebells push your blues aside, so North Of The Island returns with a beatific balm for your soul - four tracks of green house destined for blue skies and a golden sunrise. The first NOTI release since 2022, the ‘Earth Positive EP’ finds Neil Diablo at one with the vernal vibrations, his Balearic alias sprouting in new directions to incorporate the textures and tones of 90s clubland, hinting at the heady sound of his sweeping DJ sets. 

Stretching his legs from the off, Neil invites us on an early morning walk through the dewy pads and hazy stabs of “Etherealness”, its bassline pressure and chirruping hats providing purpose as we stride past the post-party crowd. An aspirate flute floats from the distance, piercing the mist and pulling a propulsive bassline in its wake, a gateway to Goa or The Garden. 

Lush with medicated synth swells and woody melodies “Earth Positive” sets sun salutations to a snapping electro beat before blooming into a festival of cascading keys and FM horns - this is as Balearic as a roached Bianco Y Negro sleeve and a plasterer’s pony tail. 

I’ve never been to “Fantacity” but based on this introduction I’d imagine it’s equidistant from Belfast and Sheffield, and just the sort of place you should be looking to move to. Fluffy little clouds of dopamine-laced pads look down on the unhurried chug of hissing hats and restrained breakbeats as the bleeps, vamps and whistles echo rave’s past while facing the future with a smile. When it’s time for siesta, harness the healing of the hypnagogic beatless blend and wave your cares away.

A digital delight, available to own via Bandcamp or savour over streaming, this is just the start of a fertile year for North Of The Island.

I've been working on completing the 1st ever composed . It's a contemporary Gilbert & Sullivan take on Brit comedic opera. Despite being a previous conductor and director of the National G&S Opera Company, it is super-talented composer Andrew Nickiln's 1st opera, with renowned G&S artist Simon Butreriss as Librettist, and award winning soloists voicing the 4 protagonists. Its inception and current incomplete status form quite the storyline.
Andrew developed 'aphasic dementia' (think Bruce Willis' illness) as it was being tracked remotely by the soloists over lockdowns. The soloists were funded through a generous online campaign. But Andrew cannot now communicate verbally, and his musical ear is also affected, so those glorious vocals remained raw and unedited. His lovely friend, Jane Stokes, found me last Nov & agreed to fund the complex process of finally getting the 1400 bars of Act 1 transferred, edited, mixed and mastered.. on strict instructions that Andrew was not to know the cost... but she died over Xmas 🎭
So the only option is now to go back to Kickstart to try to get Act 2 over the line as well - for full release for all to finally enjoy.
