๐ Help Save the David Clarke Model Railway โ A National Treasure Under Threat!
Nestled in Ulverscroft, Leicestershire (LE67 9QB), the David Clarke Model Railway is a breathtaking 52-year-old layout that brings the Great Western Railway of the 1930s to life. Spanning 16.5ft wide by 38ft long, this radio-controlled marvel features a fully functional signal box with 210 leversโeach one operating real points and signals. Locomotives run on battery power, and the attention to historical detail is second to none.
๐ฅ In this video, we showcase the layoutโs intricate craftsmanship, its unique operating system, and why itโs considered one of the most distinctive model railways in the UK.
But this irreplaceable piece of railway heritage is now at risk. The trustees of the Shuttlewood-Clarke Foundation have announced plans to dismantle the layout to repurpose the building for charity shops.
