This is humiliating but I have to share in order to help others. I don’t want to. I have egg on my face but here goes.
Two months ago I agreed to become the content manager and creator for Avenue - and all subsidiaries. Avenue Retail. Avenue Bookstore etc. on a contract basis.
Many of you know I’ve just returned to work following a year off and this, at 20 hours a week, plus my other short term jobs, seemed perfect.
It was. I love the content, the demographic, the products, the ethos (I’ve since found was pinched from somewhere else) and I put my all into it as I always do.
Then I invoiced for the first month. I was told it would be paid but to carry on working. The contract stated payment within 14 days of invoice. This came and went. Almost ready for the next month’s invoice and they block and ignore ALL communication while still using EVERYTHING - marketing plans, content etc.
I’m not the only one. They’ve done it to their social media manager too, their customer service manager.
They are not going bust, they’re adding new products daily. They’re building a scam empire as recent customer reviews will tell you too.
Be careful and please spread the word. They’ve risked our homes, utilities, everything by tying up our professional time with no intention of payment.
Avoid at all costs.

They’re now telling me they are suing me as I impersonated Martina Mercer and obtained work by deception. How upset are they going to be when they realise it’s me and I took on an “easier” job so I could care for my son and grieve a bit?

To all my author friends, warn your publishers, agents, and please don’t let them use your name or sell your books. They won’t give you royalties, they make them in PDF and send via email. Customer reviews are now coming in thick and fast. They weren’t there when I started.

This weekend I set on fire. Literally went up in flames, my hair, ear, neck, eyebrows, lashes, gone.
I do not recommend this, being blown up. However I feel I’m now part of a special exploded club!

So I came on Facebook for the first time in forever to reconnect, to say thank you for all the birthday messages, and Facebook banned me!
Apparently my activities were suspicious - the activity of liking posts, commenting and thanking.
Only just allowed back in!

My beautiful mum passed away on 24 March.
Life was a whirlwind while caring for her in her last few weeks and the following month has been nothing short of hectic, lonely and exhausting.
It’s a pain that knows no end and my head isn’t in the right place to work right now but it’s getting there.

This is how you do it! I’m in the unique position of owning a magazine but also being a PR and marketing consultant. I ALWAYS advise my clients to send a personalised note when sending samples and it looks like the jelly bean have done the same. This note ensures it stays in my mind and will be at the forefront when I’m compiling the “Garden Must Haves for Evening Get Togethers” article for Sunday Woman magazine. Well done!
