His father, Professor Mahmood Mamdani, is a celebrated sociologist and historian.
His mother, Mira Nair, is the world-renowned film director behind classics like Monsoon Wedding and The Namesake.
Raised by this dynamic, Indian-origin couple across various countries, Zohran’s upbringing was steeped in diverse cultures and perspectives. He pursued higher education at the esteemed Bowdoin College in the United States, majoring in Africana Studies, an experience that amplified his passion for human narratives and standing against injustice—a driving force since his youth.
