🐓DEAL ANNOUNCEMENT🐓
We’re so excited to share that our project STABLEHEART by Nicci Johnson is coming from Simon & Schuster on 18 June 2026.
And book one, HELPING HERO, has just been picked for The Bookseller’s June Previews!
ā¤ļøCourage to ride. Strength to heal.ā¤ļø
Eleven-year-old Pres has been in foster care for as long as she can remember. Now she’s leaving her foster parents behind to live in the city with her eccentric Aunty Janelle, where she discovers Stableheart, a riding stables in the heart of the city, and meets Hero, a bay pony with secrets of his own.
Hero won’t let anyone touch him, let alone ride him. But Pres knows all about difficult pasts and soon an unbreakable bond forms.
The first in a contemporary horse series with a cast of characters you won’t soon forget.
Nicci Johnson is the pen name for the very wonderful Nicola Brooks-Williamson , a vet and ophthalmologist born to a Jamaican father and Trinidadian mother. Her middle grade novel The Little Witch from London was shortlisted for the FAB Prize 2021. She lives in Surrey with her husband and three sons, one of whom has special needs and whose cheerful outlook inspires her daily. The household is also home to a number of rescue animals.
Huge thanks to the team at and the Storymix storylining and editorial team including our consultant on looked after children. We can’t wait for readers to meet Pres and Hero.

Our publishing arm - Storymix Books has been shortlisted for The Bookseller Newcomer Award at the 2026 Independent Publishing Awards.

We launched our first book as a publisher less than a year ago and so we most certainly do feel like a newcomer in this newcomer category - we’re very proud to make the cut! This is a record-breaking year for the IPAs. 68 nominations across 14 categories, the most in the awards’ history.

The judges said: ā€œStorymix Books has spotted a clear need in the market and met it with a great concept. It’s bringing something different to children’s books.ā€

We’ve been a packaging studio for seven years (it’s actually our seven year anniversary on Monday 20th April), building stories and developing writers and illustrators who ho onto to launch their own careers. We became a publisher because some stories are too important to let go and publishing climate is not always making it easy to sell the stories we develop. This shortlist tells us we made the right call to risk it for the proverbial biscuit.šŸŖšŸ‘ŒšŸ¾

Congratulations to all the nominees. Winners announced at the OXO Tower on 29th April.

See you there. šŸ–¤

Destiny is now available in hardcover across the US, published by and the American reviewers have fallen for her just like we knew they would.
Kirkus Reviews, School Library Journal and Publishers Weekly have all covered the book ahead of launch, with SLJ calling it ā€œan engaging, wonderful addition to transitional chapter book collections.ā€
We developed this series with the wonderfully talented Adeola back in 2023, built around a simple question: what if what you drew came to life? Four books in, Destiny is now reaching readers on both sides of the Atlantic, and we couldn’t be prouder of what has been created.
If you’re US-based, you can grab a copy from , , Amazon and all good bookshops. If you know a young reader aged 5–8 who loves drawing, and stories about finding your brave - this one’s for them.
Happy book birthday, Destiny šŸŽ‰

We developed The Lost Name Society with the brilliant , writing as SR Krish, and we are buzzing to announce that has acquired UK and Commonwealth rights, with publication planned for Halloween 2026.
Huge congratulations to Savita for bringing the scares and the heart in equal measure. To whose editorial work helped sharpen every twist. And to , who brainstormed early ideas with years ago at The Jam Factory (RIP)!
Thanks Hazel Holmes and the team at , the perfect home for this book.

What a stunning cover for Princess (apparently) to be published by in August 2026! Thank you for your gorgeous artwork. Can’t wait for readers to meet the main character Della AND visit the stunning (fictional) Caribbean island of St Anthonique AND learn more about the island’s Black royal family who have reigned since the 18th century (and their secrets of course…). Summer can’t come fast enough - this funny, romantic and sweet teen novel which also tackles some important topics around identity and the environment is written by the extremely talented and is perfect for readers of Geek Girl, The Summer I Turned Pretty and The Princess Diaries!
