SIR SIR is the termly publication of the Oxford International Relations Society, dedicated to showcasing

SIR, printed termly, is a magazine in which our contributors can voice their responses to the theories of academia and the facts of world events, just as letters are written to newspapers challenging their perspectives and content. Indeed, SIR takes its name from the way in which such letters are addressed. We pride ourselves on the calibre of our academic content as we do on the unique viewpoints

of our idiosyncratic articles and first hand accounts; the latter sadly absent in many other publications with an IR focus. Combining intellectual rigour, clarity of vision and a taste for the distinctive and unconventional, SIR offers a fresh prism through which international affairs can be discussed. !!! APPLY FOR SIR EDITORSHIP !!!

There is an exciting opportunity to apply for the position of Deputy Editor of our journal SIR (and thus become Editor in Michaelmas 2015). This position is appointed, not elected. Hustings for this position are not required. Instead, applicants should submit an up-to-date CV and cover letter of no more than one page, outlining why they are interested in an editorial position for SIR and how they feel the journal can be changed and/or improved, to [email protected] by the end of Sunday of 8th week. Shortlisted candidates will be invited to an interview which will be held on either Tuesday or Wednesday of 8th week.

Good luck!

The Society of International Relations Journal is sending out a call for pitches for the next edition (Hilary 2015).

The theme of the issue is ‘Multipolar World’. This gives scope for articles on a diverse group of topics so if you have an idea for a piece why not pitch it to us? Essays on regional powers, emerging regional tensions and the changing diplomatic landscape are very welcome. An example of a relevant essay might be one addressing the growing importance of China in south-east Asia and the effects of this on American or European diplomacy in the region.

However, the nature of the theme means that we welcome essays concerned with topics as varied as the geopolitical role of the European Union, the international situation of Russia and the prospects of Mercosur and Latin American integration.

In other words, it’s definitely worth making a suggestion if you think you can manage something. Do email me ([email protected]) if so. Obviously, time is a little short and final submissions should be made by the weekend of fourth week.

Do also like us on Facebook for updates on articles and events and a stream of discussions about International Relations issues (https://www.facebook.com/irsoc).

Best wishes,

The SIR Team

We aim to deliver the arguments of scholars, policy makers, and commentators through weekly speaker events on wide-ranging and multi-disciplinary topics.

Ebola, ISIS, global warming - "Just how fast is the world approaching the demise of humanity?" by Bill McKibben

When its history is written, 2014 will be remembered as a year when remarkable individuals smashed the world as we know it—for better and for worse. While some left horrific wreckage in their wake, others showed that a better future demands tearing down foundations and building something entirely ne…

In the early 1990s, Germany's capital city was war-torn, broken, and as beautiful as it was bizarre.
