There’s really nothing finer than a freshly-tuned Joanna. Whenever the studio piano starts to lose its magic we call Nick Madin. He always brings it back to life and we highly recommend him if you’re in Cornwall (look him up on Yell, etc.) He also fitted a piano heater for us a couple of years ago which has helped enormously in maintaining the tuning and the general well being of the instrument. Thanks, Nick! 🎹

There’s nothing worse than someone wandering in while you’re in the middle of an incredible take. Tam has been making some professional-looking signs today - in between recording Mike Silver - in order to avoid potential gatecrashers “breaking the spell.” So far so good! Airfield studios: if your names’ not down you’re not coming in.

‘No one Leaves This Discotheque Alive’ is the first release from the excellent forthcoming Rialto Music album which was produced and recorded at Airfield Studios by our very own in-house hybrid role person, Tam Johnstone. Steve Lamacq is playing the track tomorrow late afternoon on BBC6 Music so, tune in and, of course, download the heck out of it! Let’s get Rialto to number one and make music great again! 🪩 🍾 🪩

Has it really been 12 years since the Audient desk was installed at Airfield studios? The first two photos here were taken the day it arrived at the studio. The last photo is of top record producer, Paul Reeve manning the beloved Amek Hendrix console (previously owned by David Gilmour) which was in the studio for many years prior to the arrival of the Audient. As far as we know, the Amek is currently residing in France (Amek of that what you will.)

Airfield Studios was founded by guitarist Jo Partridge who has performed and recorded with Steve Harley And Cockney Rebel, Peter Gabriel and David Essex among many others. He began his musical career at The Beatles' Apple records. Here is part one of an interview we shot a few years ago for The Nub Sessions where Jo talks about his time working for The Fab Four. Recorded and mixed at Airfield studios, ‘Mountain Rescue’ by The General Store. Originally released in 2008 (by the American label, Brewery records) the album is being reissued in 2025 with added bonus tracks.
