| We are appealing for any information which could help us find two men – one who has been missing for over 23 years, and a second who’s been missing for more than 18 years.
Gary Tilston disappeared in July 2002 after boarding a ferry in Portsmouth, but was never seen again.
Paul Carter disappeared in April 2007 after boarding a ferry in Portsmouth but was never seen again.
Their missing cases are not being treated as linked. However, both men went missing in similar circumstances.
Gary was 30-years-old at the time and living in Coventry. He booked a ticket for a ferry leaving Portsmouth to Saint-Malo, France.
The now 53-year-old boarded the ferry which left at 8.30pm on 24 July, but there was never any proof that he got off. His property was found on board including his passport, ID, personal belongings, and house keys. Enquiries found that Gary may have been drinking in in the bar area, and was travelling alone.
Paul was 22-years-old at the time and living in Birmingham. He booked a ticket for a ferry leaving Portsmouth to Saint-Malo, which he boarded and was seen on board, but disappeared without a trace.
The now 40-year-old boarded the ferry which left at approximately 8.30pm on 20 April 2007, but there was never any proof that he got off once docked in France.
He was in company with three colleagues and was last seen walking around the ferry looking for a place to sleep. His colleagues each found places to sleep and agreed that they would all meet the following morning. However, when the ferry docked the next morning, 21 April, Paul was not found.
Paul was approximately 5ft 10ins tall, had slim build, short dark brown hair, was clean shaven, and had a tattoo of a snake on his right arm. He lived in the Birmingham area at the time.
At the time, Gary was 5ft 9ins, had slim build, wore glasses, and had wavy brown hair. He also was missing his right index finger on his right hand, and previously had jaw surgery which might have been noticeable.
